Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mori White. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mori , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I learned to do what I do by turning my first hand life experiences into melodic stories over beats. I needed an outlet for everything I was experiencing and I never was comfortable with vulnerability so I used music as an outlet. I would write and write, constantly reworking my words and delivery and structure. Knowing what I know now, to speed up my learning process in the past is be completely open earlier. The best music stems from what is real. I would become okay earlier with being completely honest about who I am to the public. I grew up hiding my life circumstances from my friends and people in my life out of shame because I cared what people thought and believed. That held me back for a long time and I would become okay earlier. The skills that were most essential is being able to compose a song with multiple cadences. Giving people ear catchy nuggets throughout a song that recaptures listeners attention as the song plays. Obstacles that stood in the way was myself. Overthinking and wanting acceptance stood in the way, causing me to not have belief in my music at that time, and if you don’t believe in it, how could you expect anyone else to.
Mori , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a born and raised Inglewood artist. I am tremendously rooted in my faith and place God first. I got into this industry because I’ve always written music my whole life, it wasnt until my brother took me to the studio with him while he was recording and from there I got the courage to hop in the booth myself. With my craft it takes a ton of consistency and discipline. It requires me to tap in to a lot of parts of myself that is challenging. This field will test your willpower but your faith and work ethic must outweigh all. I am proud of myself for the growth and the commitment I have put in that has contributed to my evolution. This is truly a day by day journey and I am grateful for it all.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
On this journey my goal is to use my God given gift to reach the masses and provide relatable music. I want to ultimately be able to provide resources for up and coming creatives. Resources are hit and miss sometimes and I know how frustrating it can be, so I want to provide resources and free game so it can make the next journey easier. Also to be a testimony to what being faithful looks like.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
The book Mastery by Robert Greene is a really good read. It teaches you how to truly find your life purpose and the proper steps to take in order to truly reach your life’s goals. Leaning into the intentional aspect of life can save so much time from being wasted.
