Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Morgan Wright. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Morgan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Is there a heartwarming story from your career that you look back on?
I’m not sure that I have one specific heartwarming story honestly. My entire career is heartwarming and rewarding! Times when I’m drained, and just don’t have motivation to make it through the day, I’ll have a client who needs strength and my motivation magically appears. My clients are my driving force. Seeing them transition out of therapy, being their best selves is the best part. While they think it’s assistance from me, it’s really them!
Morgan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Destiny brought me here! In elementary school I was involved with a school social worker. Not sure what magic she worked on me, but she was such an inspiration that I wrote about her entering into college. I wanted to be like Ms. Mary.
Now I’m a licensed social worker aiming to create a safe space normalizing what may seem indifferent. My purpose is to BREAK THE STIGMA around mental health. My purpose is to educate and uplift others with positive guidance. Too often I hear about people having negative experiences with therapists. More often than not I am witnessing people minimize mental health as if it is not as important as one’s physical health.
Curating safe spaces is my primary goal. Whether it’s through talk therapy, workshops, mental health products, or social media… everyone deserves to have a listening ear.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Being relatable, open-minded and transparent! I don’t like creating a power struggle with my clients, I am figuring out life as a therapist, human, and adult just like my clients. Having an open mind is important because not every client is the same. Clients come in with the same diagnoses but no one is the same. Being open to the clients preferences and interests and then incorporating them into their sessions keeps clientele growing. Lastly, transparency and a little self-disclosure gets you a long way. If I don’t know something, I’ll communicate that and if I can emphasize with someone I’ll share personal insight.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Wanting to be in the position I’m in! I believe that’s the key with success in any field. Having passion and drive for what you do takes you further than knowledge and training ever could.
