Morgan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, let’s imagine that you were advising someone who wanted to start something similar to you and they asked you what you would do differently in the startup-process knowing what you know now. How would you respond?
If I had to start over, I would start with the mindset of not being scared to go for the unconventional paths. I would have taken that extra class, switched to that different major and mapped a different outlook on what I deem as success. I used to be afraid of failing or making a mistake, but now I know that’s a part of life. Those things are going to happen! It’s the lessons you learn and the changes you make that make those failures and mistakes worth the experience.

Morgan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Morgan. I am originally from Pittsview, AL, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and a proud graduate of Tuskegee University.
Currently, I am a professional and freelance Digital Content Strategist and Creator. I have 6 years of freelancing and professional experience. When I started this journey, I was already personally creating content in college. I didn’t know that what I was doing, I didn’t know being creative would be something I love or that it would turn into my profession.
I started in the industry out of pure curiosity and wanted to all learn about it. I decided to take a chance and have an additional internship as a Content Strategist with Impressions of Beauty, on top of the internship that I already had within my field of IT. I ended up loving the Content Strategist position a lot more than my other internship and learning so much about social and the trends. Since then I knew I wanted to be in a creative field.
On my personal social platforms, you can find me sharing my life explorations and capturing my unique style. Professionally, you’ll see my work on Target Corporation’s social platforms – sometimes you can catch my voice or my hands within the feed!

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I quit my job, without a plan, in October of 2021. I was so unhappy at my current job. I was working as a contractor in IT and hated every part of what I was doing. The job stressed me out so bad that I became physically ill and wasn’t given any leave to take care of myself. From the work, to long hours, to the people I worked with, it didn’t satisfy me or my creative interests, so I left.
For 3 months, I lived without a job and created a plan to move towards a career that I was passionate about. I fasted, prayed to God and created a consistent schedule for me to operate on until I gained the position I wanted. I was hired in December of 2021 and started on January 1st of 2022 as an in-house Content Creator.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is being able to tell your story and telling it the way you want to. Then that story resonates with people from all over the world, which builds an everlasting community and relationships. My ultimate goal of being a creative is to help and inspire. If I can do that to at least one person, that’s the reward in itself.
