Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Morgan Powell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Morgan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear how you think where to draw the line in terms of asking friends and family to support your business – what’s okay and what’s over the line?
Morgan’s Mini Cheesecakery has remained majority a one woman show. However, I cannot take all the credit. I have no problem asking family and friends for help. I am extremely blessed to have a great support system. I have been partaking in more festivals, pop ups and events that have required more man power than I can handle alone. My go to is always my family and friends before I decide to hire help. My circle has always been comprised of support. We understand the importance of a team and in order for any of us to scale up, we need each other to be present sometimes. If you ever see MMC out at an event, just know the team surrounding me are the ones closest to me.

Morgan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Morgan’s Mini Cheesecakery is a mobile cheesecake specialty shop. We offer a variety of delicious, gourmet, mini cheesecakes. Flavors such as strawberry, peach cobbler, cookies n cream, banana pudding and more! Each cheesecake is roughly the size of a standard cupcake and sold by the dozen. Each customer is able to customize their dozen to fit any occasion. As for many, the pandemic hit hard and MMC is proud to be able to maintain quality products, while expanding our clientele through such a tough time. MMC has branched out to festivals, competitions and pop up shops. We were apart of Dessert Wars Atlanta 2022, the largest dessert competition in America where MMC placed in the top 10 out of 50 other amazing dessert vendors in Atlanta, Georgia this past spring. We are honored to collaborate with any customer ready to take their dessert experience to the next level. MMC will continue to do more in the upcoming months, so stay tuned!

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The day I quit my full time nursing job, to pursue Morgan’s Mini Cheesecakery. I had been thinking about doing this for months and since it was during the pandemic, I felt as if it wasn’t the right time and I kept putting it off. I was anxious, fearful, excited. A bundle of emotions and I would talk to my family and friends, thinking they would validate my fears and agree that I shouldn’t leave nursing. I was wrong. I received nothing but support and although I still was afraid to do it because I worked hard to get to the level I was in my nursing career. I quit anyway because I knew I could work just as hard for a business of my own. Nursing provided me with many skills like time management, customer service, collaborating/networking etc, that I could still utilize for building my business. While it is very challenging, I wouldn’t change it one bit.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source has been branching out and participating in pop up shops/festivals. Where people can not only get a taste of what they will potentially buy, but also get to interact with me and my team. Our amazing customer service combined with a bite of happiness is a sure way to get a new customer to come back for more.
