Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Morgan Peaceman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Morgan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
My idea for my blog and business, Nomaste Hungry, came to me on a trip to Europe back in 2018. I loved the idea of capturing and sharing food with others as I have a huge passion for cuisine and food.
Originally, the idea for the site would be to capture pictures of food that I’d eat in restaurants or in other countries, so this is where it began. I documented the menu items I’d try at local restaurants and share out what I loved about it. It quickly escalated into sharing recipes of my own as I felt that there need to be something a little more personal to this business. A few months into this endeavor, I quickly learned I needed to create a social media to further promote what I’m doing and why it’s important to me.
Upon creating a social media handle for Nomaste Hungry, I learned that I wasn’t the only one going to restaurants with a very bright light and capturing cheese pulls or saucy pastas and promoting it on IG, so I had to dig deep and really decide what I want my business to be focused on: what was my vision? I knew I loved to cook, and wanted to teach myself how to bake, so I followed my passion with creating quick and easy family-friendly recipes and never looked back.
In 2020, during the global pandemic, I welcomed my first son, and with the time I had at home to take care of him and my family, I kicked my business into overdrive and began to film regular recipes. Another learning was how to capture photos, and tell a story through my recipes, so I took food photography courses and began to shoot with my iPhone, then slowly moved into using a DSLR.
It wasn’t until 2022/2023 that my business really began to plant its roots with paid brand deals with national brands, being published in online articles and a baking magazine, and focusing on SEO for my website. We’re still in the development phase of my business, but the roots are growing stronger, thicker, and I continue to learn and grow each day!
Morgan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Nomaste Hungry is a play on words -“stay hungry” is essentially the meaning and mission behind what I do on nomastehungry.com. My last name, Peaceman, also connecting to the name of the website, given that I try to stay as grounded and grateful in all aspects of my life.
Of course, part of that has a great deal to do with the types of recipes I provide here. For now, I am the sole person running the blog, with my husband as my ‘creative director’, my son the unofficial taste tester, with another little foodie in training.
I got into food blogging and food photography out of a love of food and passion for cooking and sharing my recipes with others. With a bit of trial and error, I’ve found my niche is creating easy, approachable, family friendly recipes to help solve the ultimate question “what’s for dinner?” I focus on meal prep, weeknight meals that can double as lunches for the week or kid-friendly options so that everyone is satisfied at the table. My recipes are never complicated, typically done within 30 minutes, and are made from whole foods and real ingredients.
I’m most proud of my tenacity with forging ahead with a business idea that has already been done before, but with my authenticity and relatability, I know my recipes stand out among the digital space. I’m a dedicated, passionate food blogger that takes my work very seriously, whether it’s developing recipes and content for brands or for my own site, I always treat each project with the same amount of focus and care.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I’m a very honest, blunt, and authentic person; there’s truly no reason to sugarcoat or pretend in an capacity. When I’m present on social media or in my blog posts, I make sure that my digital voice represents my speaking voice and the overall tone is the same. I never want to have someone come to my site or a client look to work with me and be misconstrued or misunderstand my vision and mission with Nomaste Hungry.
Everything I post about on social media and in my business is done with integrity, I very rarely share highly staged stories, for example. A lot of what I share is selfie-facing, talking to my audience as a friend, and keeping it real as best as I can. I think that’s what makes it important for the viewers and for my future clients to see and know about me.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
Building and cultivating relationships is a sort of love language of mine; I love talking to and meeting new people! When it comes to meeting new clients and fostering loyalty, it becomes personal for me.
I make sure I keep abreast of any changes within the brand in terms of contacts and vision of products by following up regularly via email or even through DM on social media. I also make sure that any brand I work with, I’ve used their products organically before versus pretending to know what their products are. I think that makes it a lot more personal for both parties, and feels more authentic.
