We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Morgan O’Donnell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Morgan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I want to be remembered as someone who was like an extension of the family. Working with any pet is like working with someone’s baby ( but with fur.) I want to be known as a person they trusted so much with their family member. I love hearing “the dogs love you so much” from the home owners. I love seeing an excited pet as I enter the home because I came to visit.
Feeling that trust makes me so satisfied with my work. I look forward to seeing my clients everyday.
Morgan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I always loved animals and working with pets. I started to watch my friends animals on their vacations as a fun side hustle. It grew into more consistent jobs and I decided to do the work full time.
I solve a huge issue for my clients. I give them peace of mind while they can’t be home to watch their animal. Knowing someone is caring for their pet while they cannot be there, is priceless to them. I love to make fun videos and give the family updates of their fur child. I also never hesitate to tell the pet owners if something was off with the animal while they were in my care.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I love to maintain a friendly relationship with my clients. On holidays, I love to give cards to my clients. I enclosed personalized photos of their pets in each card. I love to go the extra mile to show how much I care about the pet I watch.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I once watched a small dog who was terrified of me. It was my responsibility to care for her. Getting her in a harness was so frustrating because she just ran away from me for a week. We did more meet and greets until this little girl trusted me. Now, she runs to me and rolls over and requests endless belly rubs. I’m so happy I didn’t give up on her! She went from my hardest client to my easiest.
