We were lucky to catch up with Morgan Moody recently and have shared our conversation below.
Morgan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
Absolutely! I wish I took my social media serious when I was in college from 2012-2017, I would’ve been beyond bigger than where I am today. But I thank God and the Universe, because timing is everything.
I started with modeling when I was 16, radio hosting at 28, YouTube at 27, and other platforms around my 20s.
At the time in my life before I took it serious I was just having fun, never really saw the potential until my late 20s. Once I started to see the growth in my brand and branding myself I started to take everything serious once I turned 27.
At the time in the beginning I was not in the right mental space, meaning I was happy but I was dealing with a lot of trauma. Once I started therapy everything took a turn for the better and I am healed and growing.
Something I would change is I would’ve stepped out on faith and started early especially because social media was just really becoming popular! So I always encourage my followers and peers to not wait and go for their dreams. If it is FOR YOU then it will be FOR YOU.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Morgan, I am from a small town in the Midwest of southern Illinois. I was born in Centerville, Illinois on July 6, 1994. I am a college graduate from Saint Louis University (Fall 2017). I became a mother in the midst of being a college student but I didn’t let that hold me back from graduating. I graduated with Mass Communications and African American Studies, so social media and influencing has always been a passion for me.
I got into the industry from a friend whom aunt was apart of the fashion industry in Saint Louis, Missouri. I went to a casting call and have been modeling ever since. Later I built relationships with fellow designers, influencers, models, and the Saint Louis socialites. Which led me to starting to explore getting paid on social media and becoming a radio host.
I brand myself so the services I provide are to promote brands or designers. Also using my platform to make video content to make people laugh and learn about therapy. When it comes to my YouTube channel “The Real Morgan M” I talk about my therapy process with healing traumas, showing my subscribers it’s okay to feel the way you feel especially in society today with being a young, single mother, and African American. I also do travel vlogs and beauty here and there!
What sets me apart from others is that I AM MYSELF! I say this because I am not following a trend I am really letting my followers and subscribers see the real me and know that it is okay to be yourself and people love that so much more than you portraying something else. I never wanted to be a “IT Girl” I’ve just wanted to be Morgan or MORGANA, even Morgan NAOMI. I am just a free spirited happy person that is super transparent when it comes to my life, you never know who you could motivate or influence because of how relatable you are!
The main things I am proud of is me trusting God and the Universe on my journey. I watch a sermon and journal everyday to guide me in the right direction the right way. When I started my healing series on YouTube so many people would give me an amazing feedback on how they could relate and to know it’s okay to be mentally unstable at times but also to learn and grow. Becoming a radio host is one of the few I am proud of because I’ve always wanted to do it, but I was scared! My friend Prince Cardia asked me to sub in for the previous Co-Host and next thing you know I was offered a position at Streetz 105.1 “Shop Talk”! The next would be going VIRAL on Instagram for a reel I made to Mariah Carey’s song “Its A Wrap” I have over 142k likes and 1.7 million views! Lastly of course being published in 3 magazines and becoming a Wild n Out girl when they came to Saint Louis, MO! I networked so much and received so many gems to help with my career!
I want my followers and readers to know that everything takes TIME and WORK! This industry isn’t easy it’s hard, but if you trust God or whomever you believe in you can achieve ANYTHING. Lastly always celebrate the small wins so they can prepare you for the BIG WINS! Believe in yourself when others do not! You CAN DO THIS!

How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my followers on social media by studying other YouTubers (Talitha, Dearra, and Glamazon Tay) because they’re more of the genre I go for when it comes to YouTube! They always make videos on how to grow your content and supplies to make your content better!
When it comes to Instagram, it gets tricky because everyone’s algorithm is different. So I studied mine from 2021-2022. In the midst of doing that I had to removed a lot of followers and bots because my content wasn’t reaching people I was interacting with. Last year in Febuary I took 1 hour out of each day to remove followers. By the end of Febuary I removed 2,000 followers, but I knew I could grow them back organically. I WAS RIGHT, I started posting funny reels and once I went viral I gained over 2,000 followers and couldn’t be more proud of myself!
The advice I would give to someone who is interested in building their social media is to stay consistent! I post 3 times a week, and share my own content on my platforms because if you don’t believe in yourself who will? Also, plan a day where you just create content, that way you can post through the week without trying to figure out what to post next. Set small goals through each month to accomplish with your social media page, but be realistic! Don’t worry about what everyone else has going on with their social media pages, there are people that will relate to you and support you! Be YOURSELF, I can’t stress it enough! If you try to become like everyone else how will you stand out? You do not need to buy all the equipment to start with content, I started on my iPhone and I still use my phone lol. Network, you’re either going to get a yes or no. Lastly, trust God and the process, never be scared to ask for help amongst your peers or even people you don’t know, your either going to get a response or not and that is okay too! Expect the UNEXPECTED, you never know who is watching!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to reach out to as many people as I can to advocate for mental health, especially with going to therapy. African Americans sometimes feel as going to therapy is taboo and it is not. I have learned so much about myself and healed so many traumas in which have led me in the success I have today.
I want people to know it is okay to really have self love and being yourself on social media and even with modeling it will get you far. You don’t have to hold this certain look or dress a certain way to be in the creative field! That’s what makes it so creative because you can BE YOURSELF.
Lastly is to keep growing with more followers and making this my full time job! I really enjoy what I’m doing and networking that comes!
I am just trusting God all the way because he knows my story to succeed in the future!
