We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Morgan Leverett. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Morgan below.
Morgan, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
When I envision the legacy of Unity, I see it extending far beyond mere material success. Our true goal is to leave a lasting impact on our community. We aim to unite a diverse group of individuals, bound by their shared passion for clogging. Each member of our team plays a crucial role not only in our success but also as a role model for aspiring dancers.
My aspiration is to be remembered as a mentor who fosters a positive movement, empowering each dancer to build self-confidence, grow as an artist, and inspire others. I believe that clogging is more than just a dance form; it’s an opportunity to create a supportive community.
Growing up, I faced the challenges of feeling inadequate and disconnected. I’m determined to ensure that no one else experiences such feelings. By providing unwavering support and guidance, I hope to create a safe space where dancers can thrive.
Ultimately, I hope to have made a positive difference in the lives of those I’ve encountered through clogging, inspiring them to pay it forward and become mentors themselves.

Morgan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
From the heart of Greenville, SC, Unity Clogging is a dynamic clogging team that blends tradition with innovation. Our roots trace back to the Appalachian Mountains of the late 1700s, where clogging emerged as a vibrant fusion of Cherokee Indian, Irish, and Canadian step dance influences. Today, our contemporary style incorporates elements of tap and hip-hop, creating a fresh and exciting interpretation of this timeless art form.
Our diverse team, ranging in age from 7 to 50, unites dancers from across South Carolina. Founded in 2020, we began our journey in a small Spartanburg studio, drawing members from Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Illinois. Now, we’ve expanded to include adult and elementary-level teams, fostering a strong sense of community among dancers of all ages.
With a commitment to excellence, Unity Clogging has achieved remarkable success on the national stage. We’ve proudly claimed five National Champion team titles and numerous individual and duo accolades. Our team members, united by their passion for dance, contribute to our success through choreography, leadership, mentorship, and organization.
Unity Clogging isn’t just a team; it’s a family. We strive to create a supportive and inspiring environment where each dancer can reach their full potential.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
While Unity Clogging is a relatively young team, we’ve made significant strides in establishing our reputation within the clogging community. By setting high standards for our members, we’ve cultivated a culture of excellence and earned recognition for our dedication and talent.
At the heart of our team is a commitment to unity and community. We strive to build strong connections with dancers and leaders across the United States, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment. Within our team, we embrace diversity and celebrate individual strengths, empowering each member to contribute to our collective success.
As we embark on our fifth season, we remain dedicated to our mission of providing exceptional instruction and guidance. Our goal is to develop well-rounded dancers as well as foster the development of important life skills, such as determination, discipline, collaboration, and creativity. By prioritizing integrity, honesty, and consistency, we aim to maintain our reputation as a premier clogging team.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
When I first embarked on this journey, I was filled with self-doubt. I questioned my ability to create a meaningful impact with my team. Despite the initial challenges, our first competition season ignited a spark of confidence within me. However, as we progressed, my hyper-independence led to burnout. I realized that I am not Super Woman, and I don’t have to do everything by myself in order to feel adequate at what I do.
Fortunately, I am surrounded by a supportive community of families who were, and continue to be, eager to contribute. Initially hesitant to relinquish control, I eventually learned the value of collaboration. By embracing their assistance, I not only alleviated my own stress but also strengthened our team.
Today, I recognize that the success of Unity Clogging relies on the collective efforts of every member. We’ve cultivated a culture where diverse skills and perspectives are valued. By empowering our team members to take on leadership roles, we’ve created a more dynamic and sustainable organization. As we continue to grow, I am grateful for the journey and the incredible people who have made it possible.
