We were lucky to catch up with Morgan Leigh recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Morgan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with a hypothetical question – if it were up to you, what would you change about the school or education system to better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career?
When it comes to the educational system I feel like the way things are wired are essentially counterproductive to society. In school we learn everything, but what can actually help us to excel in real life situations or careers. There are systems in place such as homework, deadlines, frequent testing, and quizzes which aren’t necessarily relevant to our every day lives as adults. Frequent testing is also counterproductive because now we are only studying to pass the test and not to actually understand or process the material for it to be used longterm. I think implementing topics like taxes, the process of home buying, insurance, bills etc. into the curriculum could help to raise more socially aware students. The educational routines are so far opposite of real adult living that it causes students to be unprepared.
Morgan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
The Morgan Brand originally started in 2018, officially originating in 2019 is a modern art and design company. The Morgan Brand Originally began as a freelance design business offering services such as Commissioned Art, Handmade Home Decor, later transitioning into Graphic Design. With Graphic Design I’ve had great success and have worked on amazing projects with many impressive clients. In 2022 I gained a new love for Interior Design and I look forward to exploring the possibilities of it. I’m most proud of my work ethic and drive to continue even when faced with tribulations.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
By default in the Graphic Design business you’re forced to pivot. Often you may have a whole design presentation put together only for the the client to hate the entire thing. You may have worked extremely hard on the designs, color palette, and the overall aesthetic. Even though that may have been the case you still have to deliver quality service so that in the end the client is happy. How well you pivot and with a great attitude will determine if you’re really cut out for the job you want.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media was originally intended for socializing. Now everything is based upon aesthetics. Aesthetics are what helped me to win over clients. For a client looking for a specific service the first thing they see is your work. There are normally looking for consistency in the quality of work you have shown, and a consistent brand appearance. Because I am a brand designer my social media has a consistent clean and minimal aesthetic. Whichever aesthetic you naturally have will draw a specific audience who may or may not be interested in your services. Essentially looks do matter and in this case you will be judged by the cover of your book.
