We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Morgan Huelskamp a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Morgan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
I am very lucky to have been born into the family I have. My parents did a wonderful job supporting me and believing in me in everything I did growing up, and they still do in my adult life. I knew I wanted to be a chiropractor at 14 years old, and I don’t remember them ever questioning my choice or pushing me toward a more mainstream healthcare field. When I was a sophomore in high school, they even planned a family trip to Marietta so I could visit Life University, and they did the same when I was a junior in college for Life Leadership Weekend. I owe them everything.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For those who haven’t met me before, I’m Dr. Morgan, a chiropractor deeply passionate about helping people stay active and perform at their best. My journey into chiropractic began with a strong desire to support individuals in optimizing their physical health, particularly for activities they love. My focus is on enhancing not just health, but the specific performance and longevity of each patient’s preferred activities.
In my practice, I offer a variety of services tailored to meet the demands of each individual. This includes precise joint adjustments, the Graston technique for muscle release, and customized stretches and movement drills. What sets my approach apart is that each recommendation is aligned with the specific activity demands of my clients. For instance, a golfer may need adjustments and drills that focus on improving rotational range, while a cyclist might benefit from techniques that support hip and lower back flexibility.
The unique way I explain the importance of spinal health often resonates with my patients. Illustrating how spinal alignment supports the nervous system’s function, ensuring smooth “communication” between the brain and body. I believe optimal spinal health contributes to not only joint mobility and stability but also broader aspects of well-being like heart and brain health, muscular function, bone density, and spatial awareness.
I’m particularly proud when I see my patients’ lives improve because of our work together. Recently, a retired patient told me their golf game had significantly improved thanks to our sessions, which was incredibly rewarding. What I want my clients to know is that I am dedicated to helping them do what they love for as long as possible. Whether they are athletes, active retirees, or individuals committed to wellness, my goal is to provide them with personalized care that keeps them thriving in their passions.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Other than training and knowledge, I believe that **listening and empathy** are absolutely essential for succeeding in my field as a chiropractor. Every patient comes with unique goals, challenges, and personal motivations, and truly understanding these is key to providing care that is both effective and meaningful to them. Being able to connect with patients on a deeper level allows me to tailor my approach to their specific needs, whether they’re passionate about improving their golf game, staying active in retirement, or simply living without pain.
Another crucial factor is **patience and adaptability**. Chiropractic care is not a one-size-fits-all solution, and progress can look different for everyone. It’s important to be patient with each client’s journey and adjust techniques as needed to meet their evolving goals and conditions. Staying adaptable and open to new techniques and insights is vital for delivering care that consistently supports my patients’ long-term well-being.
Finally, I’d say having a genuine passion for helping people improve their lives is what drives real success. When patients see that I’m fully invested in helping them stay active and engaged in the things they love, it creates a foundation of trust and mutual commitment. This passion goes beyond technical skills—it’s what makes the work truly impactful.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Before graduating from chiropractic school, I had a job lined up. I interned at that office and worked there for almost two years, thinking this was the place where I’d make my mark. Unfortunately, I had to leave my first job and had no backup plan. There was a period of pure panic, but then, one by one, patients from the old office started reaching out to ask if I had gotten a new position. It was incredibly validating to know these patients enjoyed working with me enough to want to follow me to my next role.
Thinking it might take some time to find a new office, I decided to start seeing these patients in their homes in the meantime. Mobile chiropractic wasn’t well-known, but I saw it as an opportunity to cover a niche market, so I started my own business and became a mobile chiropractor. This was wild to me because, while I was in school, I didn’t think I’d own my own business until I was 40. I turned 30 this year and have been operating my own business for two years now and have acquired office space in Roswell.
