We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Morgan Holmes & Natalie Davis of Styled & Organized Systems a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Morgan and Natalie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Morgan and Natalie, friends since elementary school, both grew up developing organizational habits. Instead of playing dolls, we were organizing and decorating the doll houses and later in life, continuing into our friends and family’s closets, kitchens and storage spaces. While we both went on to pursue other avenues after college, we continued to use our creative gifts and in 2019, came together with the idea that this could be a unique and profitable venture. Our friends and family were incredibly encouraging, many of them being our first clients and happily spreading the word about the life-changing solutions that we offered.
Morgan is the detailed-oriented perfectionist and Natalie is the big-picture stylist….once we discovered our strong suits, we developed the concept for SOS–Styled & Organized Systems. We wanted to bring solutions into peoples every-day lives that would benefit them for a lifetime, while also being beautiful, which encourages them to keep up the organizational solution that we’ve provided. Many other “organizers” at this time were requiring clients to work alongside them and taking on more of a motivational role, where we wanted our company to be labor-based and focus on total stress-relief for the client. We continually allow them to go about their day and come home to the reveal of a new space!
Our business really took off during 2020 (SHOCK!) when clients were staying at home and evaluating how they use their homes every day. We found ourselves offering stylish and beautiful alternatives for WFH spaces, home-schooling and of course, every day household duties. After thriving through 2020, we knew that this was a worthwhile venture and that every person can benefit from some type of organization or styling throughout their home or office space.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
We are Styled & Organized Systems and our tag line “curating your most efficient lifestyle” sums up what our intention is for every client. We offer professional organization and styling for residential and commercial services. Our goal is to get to know our client and how they operate in their space on a daily basis–we tailor our solutions to their life to create efficient and beautiful solutions that any one can maintain for a lifetime.
This can begin as something as small as a kitchen pantry, where we learn your cooking and shopping habits, provide the correct products to visually stimulate you (and impress your guests!), and organize your current food items into like categories for quick and efficient grocery lists, meal prep and restocking–or our scope can be as large as packing your entire home for a move, hiring movers, supervising the move into a new home, unpacking with new organizational systems and providing a grand reveal for the new home.
We source our own product so that there is no tedious shopping for the client and can complete most projects within a day, so that our clients are able to check a stressful item off their to-do list quickly with little to no interaction.
We pride ourselves on being judgement free! We love to get to know our clients and often find that they are hesitant to start the process because they are embarrassed about their current situation. We want everyone to know how much we love our jobs and creating these beautiful spaces for people–more mess equals more joy for us! After getting to know us during the free initial consultation, clients find that we are laid-back, fun (we think we are funny!), and completely free of judgement!
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Morgan and Natalie met in elementary school! Throughout the years, although Natalie was one year older, we continued to cross paths. We played elementary school soccer together (Natalie was a star and Morgan had the cutest hairbow, ha!), we worked at Victoria’s Secret together after highschool (we credit much of our folding abilities to this job–and yes, we will organize your undergarmets!), and after college stayed in touch. Morgan always credits Natalie with being the best kind of friend because she’s notorious for picking up the phone and scheduling dinner dates when she hasn’t seen you in a while. SOS was born out of a dinner date between friends!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Our reputation began with our loyal friends and family. They continue to support us every day and through their word of mouth, our brand recognition and reputation has grown in the community. We pride ourselves on being fun and judegement-free and once we are able to meet and show a client that we have their best interest in mind, a trusting relationship is quickly formed. Other than our fun personalities we think that the quality of care that we provide to our clients is what allows them to continue to refer us to friends and family. Generally we are in people’s most intimate spaces and are walking alongside them in some dark times. It’s such a benefit when they trust us and know that we are providing a service that will set them up for the next successful phase in their life. Trust is huge and is what drives so many of our referrals and repeat clients.
