Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Morgan Freiburger (Meize). We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Morgan, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
I manage my social media 100% alone. The authenticity behind my brand and real time try ons creates a trusting relationship between me and my customer friends!
Morgan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Morgan Freiburger formally Meize. I own Riche Hippie and it has taken me years to grow my business as organically as possible. I’ve been in retail for over 15 years starting my first retail job at age of 15. I went to college at Sam Houston State University where I graduated with two degrees in marketing and fashion merchandising. I started my company by making jewelry almost 10 years ago while running a boutique in Huntsville, Texas. I turned a small business owners “hobby” shop into a full blown retail store. It was then I had full rein to grow the company and brand into the dream I’ve always had. It was a great experience with tons of highs and lows. I learned a lot about business in what to do and what not to do. I gained much experience from this time of my career but it came with a personal cost. I then started my career and life over at the age of 26. I moved to OKC where I worked a retail job while working on Riche Hippie on the side. It was then I realized I needed to take a leap of faith and completely dive into my business. I got to where I had x amount of trade shows set up for the fall then quit my full time job. I dove head first into my business. I’ll never forget my dad saying “you’re either gonna sink or swim”. I proved everyone wrong. I SWAM and I swam FAST! Business grew rapidly and organically for me as I set up at trade shows. I worked hard and networked like crazy. I love meeting people and getting to know them most being merchants or customers. Many who ended up becoming a friend and that’s what I love most. I think that’s what sets me apart. The dedication, hard work, and ability to not give up keeps riche hippie growing!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
During Covid times were unknown and really scary. I knew I had to pivot in the type of clothes I offered and still had no idea if they would sell or not. It was during Covid I started my T-shirt company and that was an additional avenue of income that helped build my brand and set us even more apart!
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I had applied for many bank loans and reached out to investors personally and was denied left and right. I went an unconventional route and applied for a business credit card that helped me get started. I have a very responsible relationship with buying for my business with the use of a credit card that I was not scared of taking that route. However, for some this is not the most ideal situation and I would not recommend it right off the bat.
