We recently connected with Morgan Doetsch and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Morgan, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
The creation of Nourished & Spiced, my company that offers individualized health and wellness services, came during a pretty vulnerable moment in my life. In 2018, my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and was undergoing treatment at an integrative health center. Although I had planned to move back to Austin, after my moms diagnosis, priorities shifted and I stayed in Chicago while she underwent her chemotherapy and treatment. The cancer center offered integrative health protocols along with her chemotherapy services, and focused on a holistic approach to healing. I had heard the term holistic before, but I hadn’t truly understood its meaning or application before then. Holistic health addresses the mind, body, and soul, considering aspects like stress, nutrition, fitness, relationships, daily habits, mental health, and community as interconnected components of our overall well-being. Outside of her chemotherapy, my mom was given daily steps/walking goals to meet, dietary and nutritional support, an open community style treatment center, psychiatrists, and all the resources she could desire to heal her whole being. After 2 challenging years, my mom was finally cancer free. Witnessing this approach to healing made me think of the power these practices could have if implemented to prevent illness, instead of just reacting to it.
I moved back to Austin, TX and enrolled at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition to pursue an education in holistic health practices. The more I learned, the more I saw the significant gap in our current health system, which often focuses on reactive rather than proactive health measures. Instead of just treating diseases with prescriptions, what if we could educate people on how to prevent them through balanced, holistic living? What if we taught people how to live a balanced, healthy, sustainable lifestyle that they truly enjoyed? I saw an opportunity and need to use my knowledge and experience to help support others on their health and wellness journeys.
This led to the creation of Nourished & Spiced. My goal is to work with clients to develop wellness routines that are both sustainable and tailored to their individual needs and lifestyles. I want my clients to find enjoyments in their habits, and feel supported in the areas they are needing more accountability and guidance in. By focusing on proactive and personalized wellness strategies, Nourished & Spiced aims to empower people to achieve a well-rounded and fulfilling approach to their health because life is meant to be enjoyed.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My earliest memories are in my parents’ restaurant, which sparked my initial passion for cooking and food. I can vividly recall sitting at the bar in my diaper and oversized Spice Girls t-shirt, devouring a whitefish filet and sautéed greens at just three years old. This early exposure to the kitchen ignited a lifelong love for cooking, and eventually led to a deeper interest in the nutritional and healing properties of food.
This passion for cooking came with me to The University of Texas. I would always have my friends over for dinner, and I noticed how great cooking was for bringing community together. I would teach all of my friends and roommates the basics of cooking such as how to marinade chicken, what temperature to cook it at, the best seasonings to use, etc. It was so rewarding to see how proud they were cooking themselves food they liked. Since my background is in education, teaching has always been a passion of mine, and this paired perfectly with my growing interest in holistic health. When I discovered my passion for holistic health, it felt like an ‘aha’ moment that allowed me to merge my love for teaching with my love for wellness.
Through Nourished & Spiced, I support clients from diverse backgrounds in finding high-quality, personalized health and wellness solutions. A key focus of my work is with young women seeking sustainable health practices. This includes fitness routines, hormone balance, stress management, daily habits, and nutrition/cooking tips. I am particularly dedicated to helping women gain confidence both in themselves and in their fitness journeys. Although I do specialize in helping women, I have worked with a wide client base, and have had a lot of experience helping clients achieve sustainable weight loss goals, hit their set macros for fitness goals, figure out grocery lists/meal plan ideas, and create accountability programs. I believe in an individualized approach to health, which is why I always start with a free consultation to discuss clients specific goals, as well as how I can best support them on their journey. I offer individualized health programs, health intensives, and private training sessions for females looking to gain confidence in the gym.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I am still in the process of building up my audience on social media, but I believe being authentic is the most important thing in building up any brand. It’s important to live in alignment with your message and to share your journey—both the successes and the challenges—rather than just presenting a polished outcome. By stepping into your individual authenticity, you hold space and allow others to be a more vulnerable and honest version of themselves. This approach fosters genuine connections and makes people care about following and supporting you.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe my passion and positive energy have been key in building my reputation within the wellness market. My enthusiastic, informed, and playful approach has helped me stand out as someone who brings a positive energy into the coaching space. I think there can be an ‘all or nothing’ mindset with health, and I think that’s an unsustainable and also not enjoyable way to view wellness. I believe in practicing an 80/20 lifestyle, to offer a more balanced approach towards health. If 80% of the time you are living a healthy lifestyle, this allows for 20% of leniency. Workout, hit your steps, eat healthy proteins, but I also believe we can have birthday cake and be lazy on Sunday if that feels good for the soul. I believe offering a realistic, sustainable, effective, and feel good approach to health has helped build my reputation in the market.
