We were lucky to catch up with Morgan Buchas recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Morgan, thanks for joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
MDB Photography is not just a photography company that shows up, takes pictures, delivers them and moves on to the next client. I take pride in truly getting to know my couples. From how they met, how they proposed, what their dogs name is or even what their favorite date night spot is. In my opinion, truly knowing your couples makes their photos that much better. That way, it’s like an old friend coming to your wedding, not a photographer you met online. Which, most the time that is how brides find me. This way, brides aren’t afraid to cry in front of me, grooms are able to joke around and show a true smile. Those real emotions are what is going to tell your story in your wedding album. Those real and raw emotions.

Morgan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi! My name is Morgan Buchas. I am the owner and lead photographer of MDB Photography, located in Savannah Georgia. This crazy journey of being a photographer started when I was fifteen years old. I job shadowed a wedding photographer in Philadelphia and instantly fell in love with. . . love! I was an intern for Daniel Moyer photography for about 3 years before deciding to go to college at Savannah College of Art & Design. I packed up my life from a tiny town in Pennsylvania and hit the road for Georgia! Throughout college, I second shot for photographers in the area while going to school for fashion and advertising. Graduation was right around the corner when I received a job offer to be a fashion photographer in Los Angeles. I instantly became sick to my stomach. Most students would be delighted. I was not, my heart was still with wedding photography and I couldn’t bear the thought of leaving Savanah. I realized I didn’t have to, I could follow my father’s footsteps and become an entrepreneur. I turned down the job and opened MDB Photography! It was truly the best decision of my life. Since starting my successful business, I have won multiple awards, been featured in multiple magazines, met the love of my life, got engaged, bought a house and got a puppy!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
MDB Photography opened just four months before Covid started and businesses in Savannah were forced to close. A scary challenge for a business owner that just started. I was terrified because there wasn’t an end in sight. I took that time to work on my website, social media, resources for my clients, etc. Clients still wanted photos. Clients were still calling, emailing and messaging. I made a list and told clients that when I was allowed to start shooting again, I would call them. This list allowed me to hit the ground running!

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for me has been Instagram! My CRM tracks where each clients comes from and Instagram is by far the top, month after month. The crazy thing is that I don’t pay to advertise or “boost” on Instagram. I simply did my research on hashtags, trends, etc. and let Instagram do it’s thing. While a lot of followers is amazing, you need paying clients. In today’s age, it’s so hard not to fall into the “I hit 5k followers!” While I only have a little over 2k followers, most of them have done one or more sessions with me – which is incredible!
