We recently connected with Morgan Boyles and have shared our conversation below.
Morgan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you have a hero? What have you learned from them?
My dad, Roger Boyles. To others he’s known as the Midas man, but he will forever be my hero. He has a real deep and personal story as a kid growing up in California, that made him the man he is today. He’s taught me majority of my values in life, but one major thing I live by is, to always do the right thing. It’s something I have To constantly tell myself as a business owner, especially when others are acting out of character. I always hear my dads voice telling me to just continue doing the right thing and Karma will pay back. Another big thing my dad has taught me is, to always stick to my word. Sticking to your word isn’t always easy but it teaches people to believe and respect you.
These are just two out of the million things my dad has taught me. My dad is who made the business woman person I am today. Because of him, I have Strength and courage to be a well respected woman not in just My community, but in other cities and states.
If you know my dad, you know he will be the first to give the shirt on his back to the next who needs it. He’s the hardest working man but yet was always the best father. He never let any excuse stop him from being such an involved parent nor stop his grind.
My dad is and will always be my hero.

Morgan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Morgan Boyles, 29 years old. I moved To Columbia in 2007, I had just turned 13. At that time I wanted to start earning my own money. So I made A flyer with photos of the nail art i could do, walked with my Barbie bath and nail polish and went door to door to offer pedicures. Using a Barbie bath and dollar tree products wasn’t very easy, but I got The job done and left with $10-15 so I was A happy kid.
If we fast forward to the age of 17, I found out I was pregnant. I had been working ever since the age of 13 so working to provide for my son wasn’t scary, but wanting to provide the best life possible became my biggest motivation. I worked so much that attending high school wasn’t at the top of my priority list. Although if I wanted my parents to finance my schooling after, I had to graduate. I worked a full time job as a server and graduated high school in 2013. Knowing I could at least do nail art, I figured I could go to nail school. So I Immediately started cosmetology school with the goal for it to Support me through college.
Sam Browns cosmetology Institute is where I attended. Sam was everything I needed At this time. He was a tough cookie, he didn’t let you get away with anything. He really help mold and create the Stylist and salon owner I am today. I learned I had A real passion for hair. All things Hair.
I graduated with my cosmetology license and then immediately signed up for online college classes with the intention of graduating with a degree in psychology. If your at all familiar with the salon industry, you know that this is a real career. Not something to just barely get by with doing. It’s all or nothing. Therefore, I found That doing hair required my full time attention in order to build the clientele I wanted And needed to survive.
I am now a salon owner of, Broadway Hair Co. 3+ years located in Columbia, Mo. We provide services to all ages, genders, and ethnicities. My goal and mission is to be a welcoming and safe place for everyone to feel pampered, including my staff.
I take pride in not just being a salon owner, but also maintaining being the best mom I can to my son. I try to teach him all the things about life, the hardships that come with it and building his own company one day.
Our goal as a family is to make it out of Columbia. To expand The Broadway Hair Co. is more ways than one.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
How many stories do you want to hear? Lol. There’s so many times I could Talk about that proves my resilience. All the way from bad bosses that could have easily ran me out the industry to being a salon owner and having all the trials and tribulations now.
The one time I really Felt like throwing in the towel would have to be recently actually. I had Just had 3 top stylist in my company move on with their career, I experienced a very traumatic incident personally, and my air conditioner at the salon went out causing us to shut down, happened all within a very short span of time.
I remember Coming home from work and telling my family I was Done. I was ready to just quit. I was Tired. I felt Like I was Fighting for my company when no one else cared. At this point I questioned, “is this an opportunity for me to get out or is this a test to really see if I’m made for this”. After a phone call I made To my oldest brother, Corey Boyles, he encouraged me to stop looking for the answers and just let them come to me. He trusted me as a business owner and really reminded me I can Do this. If you’ve read a previous interview I’ve done before, you’d know Corey is a big reason why I opened The salon to begin with.
Needless to say, I took His advice. I slowed down, came up with a plan, and came back stronger than ever.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I always Say, you need a side hustle to support your real hustle but don’t let it get In the way of that real hustle.
I was booth renting for 4 years prior to opening up Broadway Hair Co. In the beginning of me booth renting I was Really struggling to make ends meet. I was taking my son to the food pantry often to find food to eat. It seemed Like I was Constantly at work but I just Couldn’t catch up. So, I started working at a night club. In the beginning it was Just to make ends meet, but it quickly Helped me get on my feet to where I started Saving all the money I would Make from there. I saved Enough money that I was able to open the salon with zero loans or debt.
