We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Morgan Blackman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Morgan below.
Morgan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One deeply underappreciated facet of entrepreneurship is the kind of crazy stuff we have to deal with as business owners. Sometimes it’s crazy positive sometimes it’s crazy negative, but crazy experiences unite entrepreneurs regardless of industry. Can you share a crazy story with our readers?
My craziest business story was when I made my first $10,000 in one month as a wealth coach.
This was in the year 2021 when I had been running my business for about a year. Usually, in the first year of business, we’re told that it’s going to be really challenging finding clients or customers and it’s going to take years before we start to see significant revenue and success.
That’s probably why we all start our business wanting to hopefully break that six-figure point. It’s when we truly feel like we’ve made it and our business is successful. We never go in to want to be the starving entrepreneur for long. For many entrepreneurs though, breaking past the six-figure benchmark is often never a reality. So as much as I wanted to believe it could be easy, a part of me always felt like it would take a long time to attain.
However, when I made that much money within a single month, in just a year of starting my business, I knew I would be well on my way to making six figures. I finally felt like it was possible to make an impact while making more money than I’ve ever had in my 9-5 life. When I had those two clients agree to pay me in full, through a series of email campaigns I had sent out, it took me a couple of days to truly take in what had happened. I felt so humbled by the fact that people trusted me with their transformation around building wealth and emotional resilience, so much so that I could be resourced in that way. There was a sense of joy, pride, and excitement as to what I could achieve next.
Now I don’t say this to brag, or to attach success to a mere number. There is so much more that goes behind the scenes in a business to be much more grateful for. The clients who transform their lives for the better, the connections you make with empowered and genuine leaders in various fields, and the lasting impact you create – weigh more on my successes than the money.
However, generating income is still important, and without it, I wouldn’t be able to make a living off the business that I love and worked so hard to build.
I continued to make $10k months in my business for the remainder of that year, before taking last year off. I credit a lot of my success so early on in my entrepreneurial career to investing in strategic support (hiring business coaches), sticking to a solid marketing plan, channeling clear and powerful storytelling on my social media platforms, and having the correct systems in place to automate my business.
It’s really one of those positive and encouraging entrepreneurial stories, to remind women like myself that you can do it too! You can definitely have a rewarding and impactful business, that also provides you the freedom to live life on your terms. Traveling the world, running your own schedule, taking time off when you need to, and the opportunity to gain an uncapped amount of income. Whether that’s making six figures a year, five-figure months, or just consistent monthly income – it’s attainable if you believe it is.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a holistic wealth coach whose mission is to inspire women to lead a life with pure integrity, ease, and heart-centered alignment. Primarily, my coaching has been centered around helping female biz owners and leaders become confident in their goal-setting decisions by embodying their unique energetic blueprint, toward manifesting a wealthier and more abundant life.
Among my certifications, is becoming that of a Trauma Of Money facilitator which equips leaders with different trauma healing methodologies to heal psychological traumas around money and create a sense of financial safety and overall well-being. I am also certified by the Complementary Therapists Accredited Association (CTAA) to provide Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and Thought Field Therapy (TFT) Tapping services.
Alongside coaching, I have been a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) investor for over 5+ years now and have been involved in multiple financial markets, with stocks and crypto being the most significant of my successes. In my free time, you can find me traveling the world, reading books, and writing fiction and poetry.
My lifelong goal is to simply make those everyday decisions that will allow me to be the best version of myself. I live my life filled with things that make me say, YES! While doing less of what doesn’t feel good to my heart and soul. Hopefully, along the way, I can encourage many more women to do the same and ultimately create the life they love.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Honestly, when I look back at the past few years and where most of my clients have come from, they’ve come primarily from doing workshops and being on podcasts. Anything to do with collaborating with others and being on other people’s platforms has gained me tremendous acceleration in the success of my business.
It’s crazy when I look back and think about how much time and effort I put into growing my Instagram – the gnawing creative energy it took to make posts, dreading going on lives, and overthinking about what to post on my stories. From all of that, I probably only had 2 clients come from this channel. Everyone else came from my willingness to collaborate with other coaches, thought experts, and influencers in various fields.
There’s that saying that ‘if you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.’ That saying rings true when it comes to the growth and success of my business.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
As a coach, clients are the lifeblood of my business. Without them, I couldn’t be making a living and I also wouldn’t be able to create the lasting impact I’ve felt called to give.
The biggest way I’ve managed to foster brand loyalty is through consistency. Frequently showing up on my socials and emails, to deliver high-quality, valuable, and engaging content that people can immediately learn from and apply to their lives. Despite taking last year off from my business (due to health reasons), coming back, I’ve realized just how strong my business still is because of the loyalty I was able to build before taking time off. Even when pausing my coaching services last year, I still regularly kept my audience updated on how I was doing and provided insights into their finances and how to manage their overall well-being.
This is why my favorite way to connect with my clients will always be through emails. I love to write, and I can convey my message with more impact via writing versus public speaking. Creative writing is where I shine, and if you can be a powerful storyteller that’s already the best way to ensure any marketing strategy will work for you. Also, an important fact – owning a mailing list is the only marketing platform that you OWN. Nobody can take your email list away from you. Instagram, Twitter, or YouTube can get shut down, but you can always find a way to send your clients and audience emails.
In fact, it is through keeping in touch with my clients about any new services and offerings via email, is where I was able to make my first financial milestone in my business of $10,000 and make over $60,000 in revenue in my first year of business. SO I truly believe in the power of email as a way to engage with your audience and foster long-term brand loyalty.
