We were lucky to catch up with Mor Yosef recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mor , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
At the age of 32 I decided to leave everything behind to continue to fulfill my dream. I was already an established designer with over 10 years of experience in Israel. I had many loyal clients and a working business, but I always knew that I wanted to make something bigger. I bought a one-way ticket to Los Angeles and left everything behind, my business, my apartment, my family and friends and landed in Los Angeles all by myself to open my business here. I had to start all over in a new city, in a new language but with the same dream. Nothing was easy as a newcomer trying to break the glass ceiling, but with a lot of passion, hard work and dedication, I found a nice studio and designed it to my style and started working on my new bridal collection. A few months later the collection was ready and I opened my new studio to the public and started selling my dresses.
Here I am, 3 years later doing what I love the most, making brides’ dreams come true and chasing my dreams.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Mor Yosef I’m a fashion designer and the owner of Mor Yosef bridal&evening gowns and MY MORENA swimwear.
Since I was a little girl, I always loved fashion so it was obvious that I would become a fashion designer when I reached adulthood.
At the age of 5 my grandmother taught me how to sew and that’s how my journey started.
At the age of 15, I started building my own brand and created designs that represented my taste and my vision in the fashion world.
I loved designing swimwear for myself due to my great love for the beach and they were my favorite items in my closet. That’s how my first line of swimwear was born.
Then, at age of 20 I enrolled in fashion school as I knew it was my passion and future.
But, I did not receive some pushback from my parents. They preferred that I studied a more stable degree like accounting and didn’t want me to study fashion design. So, after I completed my studies in fashion design I decided to study accounting for my parents as I wanted them to be proud of me. But, I knew that I wouldn’t end up using an accounting degree nor did I enjoy learning about it. After a year, I decided to stop studying accounting and I followed my heart and continued my journey with fashion design. That was my passion and I wanted to go after it. I felt that my parents had to come to terms with the fact that this is what I wanted to do in life. I felt that life is too short to waste time doing something I didn’t love and believe in.
After 10 years in the bathing suit industry
It was then my time to evolve and I was ready for my next dream – wedding dresses.
So, I moved to Los Angeles and opened my studio where I am currently living my dream through my designs and fulfilling my customers’ dreams. My collection has exclusive, one-of-kind wedding dresses and I use the finest and most unique fabrics. All the dresses are hand sewn with the highest attention to detail.
Each bride that enters my studio has her own vision of the perfect wedding dress and I am there to make her dream come true. This is my favorite part of working with brides.
I get to be a part of their journey on one of the biggest and most important days of their lives, and it excites me every time.
Seeing them happy with a sparkle in their eyes while wearing my dress is the greatest feeling in the world.
I love what I do and I feel honored to be able to make my clients’ dreams come true.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being creative means exposing your soul to others and showing them who you are through your art. Art is what gives life excitement and feeling, it gives meaning and purpose to the little tasks we do each day. An artist’s world is a world where everything is an idea or a possibility for new art. I’m always able to transform my imagination into a creation, and this is the most rewarding aspect for me.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Setting goals is like giving your creative journey a roadmap. My goal is to always be better by challenging my own limits and challenging my mind to create, to learn, to evolve.
I want my unique creative voice to be recognized all over the world, what drives me to consistently research and learn more to improve my abilities and techniques.
