We recently connected with Moonrise and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Moonrise, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
We’re currently in production for an all-women feature-length ski film that will be released
in the fall of 2026. This film will showcase the stories of the working women of the ski industry — from professional athletes to ski patrollers, avalanche forecasters and cat drivers — and how their roles keep the ski industry moving.
Following the success of our previous feature, Advice For Girls, the audience for this film is excited and eager to consume more narrative-driven ski media. This film is meaningful to us not only because we’re building on that momentum, but because we get to continue elevating women’s stories throughout the process.
For decades, women have been edging their way into corners of the outdoor industry that have long been deemed a “boys club.” This film will send the message that we’re done asking for a seat at the table, because we’ve already pulled up a chair.

Moonrise, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
The founding team behind Moonrise is comprised of four women, each with our own creative skillset. Each of our paths to get to where we are today was unique, but shared a goal of being part of something different in outdoor culture–a better way, where the real, inspiring people we share life with are supported, respected, and celebrated.
Our team has creative chops in design, documentary filmmaking, illustration, event production, photography, and more. We’ve built a trusted network of creative collaborators to tap into as needed, enabling us to craft the perfect team for each project.
We call ourselves a creative studio and experience factory – while we produce films and media, we’re also in the business of creating unique, memorable events for our audience and community to gather.
At our core, we’re a creative studio rooted in the power of inclusive, intentional storytelling. As an all-woman team, we identified a gap – or maybe more of a chasm – in mainstream outdoor media: real, authentic stories about women and gender-expansive people. Our clients know that this kind of storytelling is what their audiences crave, and trust us to deliver it.
We specialize in elevating voices often left out—women, gender-queer people, and underrepresented communities. Our work is grounded in authenticity, mutual respect, and a commitment to representation in front of and behind the camera. We collaborate with purpose, center underrepresented voices, and create work that doesn’t just show up—it speaks up.
Contrived, filtered, heavily curated pieces masquerading as stories have flooded the scene, in kind with social media feeds. In contrast to other outdoor media houses, from whom we often see the same thing year after year, we’re proud to bring authentic stories back to the big screen and back to the forefront of outdoor culture.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
We all met while working on the film Advice for Girls. We all admired each other’s work from afar, and when it came time to build a team of all women behind the camera and then got connected. From the process of creating a feature-length ski film, we learned how well we worked together and decided to continue working together on smaller film projects the following winter.
We created Girl Winter as a result of those 3 smaller film projects and decided we needed a space to show the films. Our team added a couple more films to the programming and then had just about an hour of programming of women-centric ski and snowboard films to tour around the country. It was so successful, selling out 70% of our shows, we knew we had to bring it back next year.
This summer our team launched Moonrise, a creative studio and experience factory, all centered around women and underrepresented voices in the outdoor industry. Our mission is to change the narrative within the ski industry—and beyond.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
At the core of Moonrise is a mission to elevate women in action and adventure sports, both in front of the lens and behind it. We believe deeply in the idea that if you see something, you can believe it’s possible for you, and that visibility is a powerful catalyst for change.
Through our films and storytelling, we hope to inspire more women to create, to take up space, and to feel a sense of belonging in their respective sports and creative fields. And while championing women is central to what we do, our broader goal is to shift the narrative within action-sports media as a whole.
We want to expand the types of stories people see, feel, and connect with. Stories that are more diverse, more vulnerable, and more reflective of the communities actually shaping the outdoor world.
Ultimately, our work is driven by the belief that better representation leads to a better, more vibrant outdoor culture for everyone.
