We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Montana Glenn. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Montana below.
Montana, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Is there a heartwarming story from your career that you look back on?
Throughout my many years of practice I have had the honor of working with several families who have had the most incredible transformative & healing experiences. One of which is a woman who had been told she could only conceive & carry to term through IVF. She had 2 children this way but IVF was no longer working. After hearing her story I let her know that I felt I could help her to naturally get pregnant. She got excited and began treatment. I saw her twice before she panicked and signed up to begin IVF once her period started. It never did. She was pregnant and kept up with my regimen and treatments, delivering a healthy baby boy :-) The best part about this story is that it is a reclamation story. This woman no longer believed that she was broken or lacking. She stepped into her strength, found wisdom in her womb and redefined the relationship between herself and her body. This is one of many stories of reclamation that I have found myself joyously watching unfold.

Montana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I came into the acupuncture world as a patient first. At the time I was an anxious college student at a prestigious undergraduate institution that had high academic expectations. I found myself becoming more and more unbalanced as I worked and went to school. My stress levels were very high leaving me vulnerable to illness. I had many urinary tract infections that never seemed to go away. When I would go to a Western physician to try to figure out what was going on I was never treated with respect or kindness. Instead, I was quickly given antibiotics even though I told the physicians they were not working for me and felt they were may be making things worse. Because of this situation, I started turning more towards natural remedies and alternative therapies. During this time of exploration, a teacher from the local acupuncture college came to my undergraduate college and did a presentation and handed out gift certificates for free treatments in the student clinic. I went to the student clinic and received one treatment and one bottle of herbs and did not have another recurrence of my chronic urinary tract infections for five years. As soon as I finished my undergraduate degree, I immediately went into acupuncture school at the very institution I had received my treatment.
Now I am overjoyed to treat other women who have out-of-the-box presentations and need more care. It is my honor to bring the same loving kindness and true listening to others that I once received. Chronic conditions, autoimmune disorders, gynecological issues, fertility problems and inflammatory conditions such as endometriosis, PCOS & any pelvic or abdominal pain require deep listening and comprehensive treatment. Being a woman who is in this category truly helps me to support others in this situation. That is why we have a different perspective and more comprehensive approach towards healing in our clinic.

How’d you meet your business partner?
My business partner is my husband, Jacob Glenn. We met briefly in school, but did not truly know each other until we went to China on an internship for a little over a month. Our story seemed to unfold as if a magic force pushed us together. China pulled us in, swept us up in the medicine and culture & brought us inseparably together. We quickly learned that we had the same passion for helping others and very different backgrounds—mine more Eastern & experience based, his more Western & familial (his uncle was an acupuncturist and treated his mother’s MS, keeping her off Western meds). As such, I became evident that we had different approaches in treatment but similar ideas for healing. Overtime we have been able to truly gain a comprehensive approach as we have combined our ideas, skills & strategies. This has enabled us to utilize multidisciplinary approaches and insight to maintain individualized treatment strategies that are functional and effective.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
There are many texts, teachings and moreover, teachers who have helped me deepen and further my path. The text I would like to highlight is one that a patient of mine suggested— The Lady’s Handbook for Her Mysterious Illness by Sarah Ramey. Not only does this book chronicle the very important story of a woman who unfortunately represents the many, it does it in a way that has come closest to how I see treatment and the path to healing. The number of autoimmune cases and chronic diseases affecting women are astronomical and often undocumented. This memoir is able to highlight the foundational issues that plague our medical system and wreak havoc on the health of women in particular, in a very poignant and important way. I implore anyone who is struggling with chronic pain, fatigue or a slew of symptoms to read this text. The WAY we think about health and our bodies as women must change in order for us to make strides forward and help women through this crisis.
