We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Monroe Alise. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Monroe below.
Hi Monroe, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
All my life I wanted to be a entertainer. I loved seeing and hearing about people who came from very humble beginnings and flourished into someone amazing and inspirational. I feel in love with acting at a very young age. I would watch movies and try and imitate the lines or delivery. It made me believe that I could be anything or anyone in the world.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am an actress, a trans activist and LGBTQ advocate who was born and raised in Washington DC. I had my first TV appearance on STARZ hit tv series P-Valley in 2021. I am currently working on the hit tv series The Chi which airs on Showtime. I was on one of the first transgender individuals to perform at the White House in 2017 during the Obama administration at the Transgender Community Briefing. I currently do work in Washington DC for my LGBTQ community. I tackle workforce, housing, and individual healing sessions. I am continuously breaking down the barriers and providing resources to marginalize communities. I am most proud of being of service to my community and showing that anything is possible. I want everyone to know that through all the hard and difficult times, staying focus, pushing through, and believing in YOURSELF can lead you to your greatness.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One thing I had to unlearn is that it is okay to ask for help. Everything I have been blessed with thus far, I needed someone to help me, and I put the work in with God’s help. I have been through a lot of traumatic experiences in my life like most Black and Brown Trans individuals. I had to seek help and healing on my own. I knew that I was hurting and wanted healing but didn’t know how to heal myself. I sought out the help, which is what I apply to my life daily. I ask for help and make sure I am willing to receive the help when its offered.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect about being a creative/artist is being sharing someone’s experience. To receive feedback from my community that how they relate to roles I’ve played or the videos I post warms my heart. The DM’s of gratitude from my community say that their dreams are possible because they see someone that looks like them pursuing theirs. That is the most rewarding for me.
