We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Monnie DaDoll. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Monnie below.
Monnie, appreciate you joining us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
I started by hearing ‘moment 4 life’ by Nicki Minaj in 2021 while going through the toughest time of my life. I heard the bar “clap for the heavy weight champs, me, but I couldn’t do it all alone, we”…..that bar caught my attention so much because I’m a team player. I’ll roll my sleeves up and play any roll needed to keep the ball moving!
I wanted to produce something that allowed us to be unified no matter the gender or age. So, as most entrepreneurs I thought long and hard about where I should start. And when I say long and hard I mean it literally.
Fast forward to fall 2022 I finally decided to produce our HWC signature beanies. Why? Because it made sense…. It’s fall, which means winter is right after so people would wanna purchase because it’s necessary for the season. I then mapped out the production price, shipping price & profit. I allowed my followers on instagram to PreOrder & once I put their orders in I doubled the order with my profit and the rest was history.
YouTube and my resources around me were the biggest teachers! I didn’t know where or how to start I just know I wanted to start and I didn’t want the excuse of me not knowing to keep me from trying. Throughout this journey I’ve learned the bigger the risk, the bigger the reward!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those who may not have read about me before, My name is Monnie & I am a 19yr old entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship is in my bloodline. My Mom was a in home hairstylist and my Dad did what he had to do to survive back then but is now a legal business owner.
For as long as I can remember I’ve been selling things from candy in school, jewelry, clothes or sunglasses. Being in control of my finances & work ethic makes me feel like a boss! I love solving problems, I love communicating with customers, I love taking risk, I love it ALL! This is the only life for me.
What I think sets me apart from other entrepreneurs is my drive. I brag different, I’m not fighting for success to be greedy and look down on anyone. I’m doing this for my loved ones the living & dead. I’m doing this to give others after me advice & opportunity.
Throughout my entire life journey I’d say I’m most proud of my bond with god & not fearing. I have no fear and even if I do, I’ll still do the task with fear. That’s what I’m most proud of.
My brand has finally published its website https://heavyweightchampionapparel.myshopify.com/ we have expanded our items since the last time I was featured here! What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn was that the people around you doesn’t HAVE to support or believe in you. They should, but they aren’t obligated. Everything isn’t for everyone & everyone isn’t for everything. Focus on your target audience, everyone else will fall in line eventually.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In the year of 2022, I’ve lost three close family members within a few months after each other, experienced health issues which led to me being hospitalized & into surgery all while almost failing my senior year in high school due to the health issues taking all my time, getting my car taken away from me, my mom being held at gun point in front of me…the list goes on!
But this isn’t one of those pity parties. Prayer & hard work allowed me to succeed through it all. I realized I was being stripped from everything I had because I had gotten too comfortable. One of the biggest life lessons I’ve learned during my journey is to never be content. Tragedies come with options to either break or make you, it’s up to you which one you choose.
And that’s why I consider myself a champion because even through it all I’m still praying, still working hard & still smiling. I look at it like I have plenty more reasons to go hard now!
