We recently connected with Monisa Ruiz and have shared our conversation below.
Monisa, appreciate you joining us today. We’ve love to hear an interesting investment story – what was one of the best or worst investments you’ve made? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
The best investment I’ve made is investing in myself whether it’s for my health, happiness, or another makeup run to Sephora or Ulta for content. I’ve made a big investment in taking time that I am 100% okay health wise. Health is everything and my mental health is so precious. My health being good makes me happier and motivates me to continue on this journey.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into making beauty content due to a lot people around me encouraging me to start filming and sharing makeup looks. What truly pushed me was moving from Brooklyn to LA. At that point in my life I wanted to take a leap and do everything I’ve doubted myself on. It’s as well how I got into modeling. I also saw how there was an engineer who was also a model, and that gave me so much inspiration since I am a full time chemist.
I think what sets me apart is that what you see me make content on, it is an item I genuinely love and I am a jack of all trades.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn doubting myself. Since I was a child I always doubted myself in things. I just did not believe in myself or my wildest dreams.
I have no idea where I got that idea maybe my peers. Because at home my mother was very encouraging and would try to get me to see what she sees in myself.
It took me moving to LA and getting my first modeling gig to see if I can dream it, it will happen. As long as I’m consistently putting quality work in and not giving up I’m succeeding.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Before becoming a chemist, before a month before I graduated, I lost one of the closest people close to me and a year and a month after that I lost another one, those were my grandparents, my cheerleaders. At the time I was trying to pursue a start in the chemistry field, it was tough because I hearing a lot of “no’s” and “you seem great but no experience” it was truly like feeling a kick while I was down. But I did not give up, and few months after my grandpa died I received my first lab job as a chemist.
