We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Monique Ruffin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Monique, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
The defining moment happened in my career when studying to be a Therapist, I was working with one particular client I couldn’t help. For some reason I could feel something was deeply nothing her but I couldn’t help her articulate it. This challenge forced me to find other tools. Astrology came to me soon after my time with this client ended. But I realized astrology is a map. The natal chart which is calculated from a persons, time, location and date of birth, works a key to help understand each individuals path.
Monique, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Growing up as. Black girl/woman in America was very perplexing to me. I was raised in Watts during the time when Dr. King, the Kennedy brothers, Malcolm X and countless others were murdered. People in my community and home were filled with sadness and suffering and I could feel it. I didn’t know I was empath then. I just knew I could feel so much pain and I wanted to stop the pain for others but didn’t know how.
My family was very religious and I thought that was the solution but as I matured I realized religion was usually apart of the problem but i didn’t know why.
After studying Politics and History, I had some idea of the problem but still no solution. I just learned that I’m a very sensitive soul and that politics was corrupt and filled with men who want power. So I went to study psychology to investigate and understand human behavior. All of this was the driving force from my childhood and desire to help people with their suffering.
I’m currently leading a community called Follow the Sun. This community is devoted to work of healing ancestral wounds trauma and transforming into who we are meant to be. Follow the Sun is really a play on my religious upbringing. But I’ve replaced the son, Jesus, with the actual sun. This allows each person working with me to delve into themselves by learning to understand their birth chart and their natural connections to nature’s cycles. I also provide serval coaching services to support families to heal from painful patterns and karmic behaviors.
My work is pretty revolutionary to the old the ways of healing or addressing emotional and mental challenges which eventually impact our relationships, health, finances and self acceptance. My childhood made me seek solutions. And I’ve discovered that lasting solutions come from within the human individual. We are not a one size fits all humanity. We are not meant to function the same. And astrology is one of the ways to understand our individuality.
Carl Jung was an astrologer but this information is rarely shared. He never took a client without first pulling their birth chart. He knew what is hurting or causing pain, is found within the subconscious of the human.
Astrology is an ancient tool which I know my ancestors used to navigate the earth realm. The 3 wise men who visited Christ as a child, found him by following the North Star. As I’ve studied cosmology and astrology, I’ve learned that every one has an internal North Star and following it will bring you healing, love, joy and peace. This map can free one from their suffering and that my job. To help people get free!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think I’ve built my reputation because I’ve also walked the path my clients are walking. I’ve experienced deep suffering and developed the strength required to see myself through it. I know how to be with others in deep pain because I’ve been with myself. Empathy and compassion are my vehicles. I go everywhere with them.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The had to learn the lesson of the cosmic tale and timelines to understand and endure very painful human behavior like racism.
Being a Black women has been very difficult and heart breaking. I couldn’t understand why America was so brutal towards Blacks. I’ve gone deep into the history of this nation and learning what I’ve learned was devastating. However cosmology helped me see more clearly. We are currently in the dark ages cosmically and all human behavior is subject to the dark ages. Racism, wars and so much more are dark ages behavior. According to the cosmic clock, we’re doing great. We’re also changing ages and it’s time to shift the cosmic timing. We don’t learn about the cosmic clock in western schools buts it’s as true as any seasonal changes. This season just last thousands of years and not several months.
