We recently connected with Monique Laguins and have shared our conversation below.
Monique , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the name Color’d from my abusive relationship. During that time I lost everything and I felt like my “color” in the world and was trying to find a way to gain it back; so I worked hard on finding my purpose in the world and that was making people feel good regardless of what it was and I was always into Makeup so I decided to put the two together and the rest is history.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
The people pushed me into me become a freelance makeup artist and CEO of Color’d Forever Cosmetics. I made it a priority to make myself look and feel beautiful after my abusive relationship and God used the trauma from that situation for my good by allowing my gift to make room for me by way of being in the right place and the right time and drawing my clients to me.
I am a proud owner of Color’d Forever Cosmetics (makeup line) and a makeup artist that strives to be global business one day “one face at a time”.
My clients are my life LITERALLY! I pride myself of makeup all of clients feel like top of the line celebrities every time they enter and leave my chair! I am the counselor, the friend, the prayer partner etc…for all of my beauties and allowing them to live in there “Color” while getting enhance my the best, and that’s what sets me apart from the rest. I don’t try to change anyone makeup or not and that’s why my business is growing and doing so well today.
Starting my business is what I’m most proud of because I took an ugly situation and made it work for me and everyone around me. My brand is put in place to make you feel good internally while getting enhance externally.
Have you ever had to pivot?
When I moved from my home town to Atlanta to follow my dream. I had to leave my clients, money, and the fame of being an outstanding makeup artist in a small town to starting over in a big city where no one knew anything about me. It was a tough transition but one that was needed to get to where I am now.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I build my audience on social media by posting content. CONTENT! CONTENT! CONTENT! You have to post something everyday and stay on top of the fast past world in today’s society while maintain your business at the same time. Sounds tough to do right? It is but it’s worth it in the end and you learn A LOT along the way.
My advice to beginner entrepreneurs is stay on top of competition and the new wave to stay relevant.
