We recently connected with Monique Haddad and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Monique thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Transitioning from completing my five years at Cal State University Northridge to embarking on a career as a certified personal trainer felt like a significant risk at the time. This leap of faith ultimately led me to enrolling in Esthetician school. In all honesty, I didn’t even know if I was going to enjoy being an esthetician because I wasn’t passionate about it when enrolling. However, an opportunity presented itself and I ran with it. I am grateful that I did not confine myself to the idea that I must be deeply passionate about something to give it a shot. As a young adult, it can be challenging to pinpoint one’s true passions. Embracing the unknown outcomes and giving myself the chance to explore different paths, from personal training to the world of esthetics, has taught me the value of taking risks. This journey has shown me that passion can be discovered through exploration and that being open to new experiences can lead to unexpected and fulfilling opportunities.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started my career journey as a personal trainer and later shifted gears to becoming a licensed esthetician. More specifically, a Brazilian wax specialist which has now become my niche. Some may view this profession as taboo or not a traditional career path, but I take immense pride in what I do. I have found a way to break down barriers and make people feel comfortable with my work through creative and silly/funny social media posts. I am unapologetically proud of being a Brazilian wax specialist and proud of being able to have created a secure and stable income for myself. I strive to showcase the importance and value of this profession, no matter how others may perceive it.
I would like to think that what sets me apart is my dedication to providing educational content for other aestheticians, offering waxing tips, and inspiring individuals to pursue a successful career in this field. I believe that by sharing my knowledge and experiences, I can help others see the potential in offering Brazilian waxing services. My goal is to show that this can be a fulfilling and lucrative career path. Lastly, I want to express how grateful I am for the clientele that I have built and the type of clients that I have attracted. At the end of the day, none of this would be possible without them and they are truly the only reason I have the opportunity to do what I do.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Building my social media audience has been a journey of authenticity. While my follower count may not be the largest, I’m grateful that most of my followers are fellow aestheticians and people interested in the services I offer.
I believe in creating genuine content that reflects my personality and passion for my career. A key factor in my social media growth has been my commitment to being unapologetically myself and not worrying about others’ perceptions. This mindset allows me to freely express my creativity and share content that I believe will resonate with those seeking information about waxing.
I definitely hit creative slumps at times and do my best to prioritize quality over quantity and only share content when inspired. By staying true to myself and considering what I would want to see as a viewer, I connect with my audience on a deeper level, providing them with informative and authentic content.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The best way I’ve found to bring in new clients is through my social media posts. I think my posts do a good job of showing people that they can feel at ease with me and trust that I’ll create a safe space for them. Social media is a huge help, especially when I was just starting out and didn’t have any clients.
Once clients come in and experience the services I provide, it’s easy for them to feel comfortable and content with my work. When you make clients feel comfortable and they see first hand the quality of your services they’re always happy to be back. When clients feel safe, they won’t hesitate to tell their friends and family about you.
