Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Monique Fraile. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Monique, thanks for joining us today. Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?
I grew Momo’z Berriez super slowly and naturally. In the beginning it was just me making berries in my kitchen for fun, and I had no idea it would become what it is now. I scaled by learning as I went doing pop-ups, making mistakes, improving my systems, and listening to what my customers actually loved. Nothing about this was overnight. Every menu, every event, every collab taught me something new.
I focused on building community and creating cute, memorable experiences, not just selling desserts. That’s what really grew the business. Consistency, creativity, and actually caring about people has been my whole strategy.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi! My name is Momo and I’m the owner of Momo’z Berriez, a little dessert brand that started in my kitchen and has grown into something so much bigger and more meaningful than I ever expected. I got into this industry completely by accident but I’ve always loved being in the kitchen and making cute treats for fun, and one day I posted my chocolate-covered strawberries… and people actually started ordering. From there it slowly turned into a real business.
Today I make custom chocolate-covered berries and treats, and I also host themed pop-ups and Sonny Angel meet-ups through my community brand, Momo’z Sonny Club. My goal is always the same: create cute, creative, memorable experiences that make people smile. Whether it’s a dessert box, a workshop, a pop-up booth, or a themed event, I want everything I do to feel fun, warm, and personal.
One thing that sets my brand apart is how community-focused it is. I don’t just sell desserts, I try to create spaces where people feel welcome, included, and excited to show up. A lot of my customers end up becoming regulars or friends, and seeing families, collectors, and supporters come back again and again means the world to me. I also love making every menu and event feel special, on-theme, and full of tiny details that make it feel “so me.”
I’m most proud of how far Momo’z Berriez has come from something I started with zero experience. I built everything slowly, creatively, and with a lot of heart. I hope new customers and followers see that my brand is all about connection, community, and creativity and that everything I make comes with genuine love and intention.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One of my biggest resilience moments happened during a San Diego pop-up. Right before we opened, my generator completely died and I already had a line of customers waiting. My boyfriend was racing around trying to fix it, even pumping gas out of the broken generator (which splashed into his eye ), and later that same day he sprained his foot. It was honestly a mess.
I tried to stay calm and communicate with everyone, and thankfully my customers were incredibly patient and supportive. We finally got a replacement generator, one my boyfriend paid for out of pocket, and somehow we pulled through. I ended up selling out in two hours.
That day reminded me that resilience is about staying steady through chaos, leaning on the people who support you, and still finding a way to make it happen.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media slowly and very naturally. I started by posting my treats for fun, then I leaned into showing my personality, my behind-the-scenes, and all the cute themes I love. I stayed consistent, listened to what my followers enjoyed, and treated my page like a community instead of just a business. Over time, the right people found me and connected with the vibe.
My biggest advice for anyone starting out is: be consistent, be yourself, and don’t overthink it. Show your process, show your personality, and post even when it’s not perfect. Community grows when people feel like they actually know you. And don’t compare your chapter one to someone’s chapter twenty, just keep posting and keep improving.
