Monique, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s jump right into the heart of things. Outsiders often think businesses or industries have much larger profit margins than they actually do – the reason is that outsiders are often unaware of the biggest challenges to profitability in various industries – what’s the biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?

The biggest challenge to profitability in this industry is being consistent. Now days you have to be consistent with promoting your business and going out in the field on a regular basis.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

My name is Monique Cooper and I co own Miffabulosity with my sister Shanna Cooper. Miifab started with a dream Shanna had with becoming an accessory retailer. It was spoken on in 2010 and came to reality in 2012. Although we were starting from scratch we later opened it up to the world by selling accessories online. Shanna went to school to be a makeup artist and I was always in the fashion and hair world so we decided to combine it all with accessories. Now today we are still doing it all with a twist to it. Now we are shopping for our clients for special occasions to accessorize their needs along with hair styling and mink lashing.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

A lesson we had to unlearned was to not give up. The minute sales weren’t moving the way we thought it should have been, we changed up instead of being consistent. Changing so quickly was a form of giving up and it didn’t show our customers how persistent we are in selling our products.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?

As I’ve said before, my co-owner is my sister. When it comes to looking good, we are pretty good in adding pieces of accessories and other items to make a look for the day. We come from a mom who was in the modeling industry and takes pride in her everyday looks and we thought that every woman should have that same mindset.
