We were lucky to catch up with Monierica Thomas recently and have shared our conversation below.

Monierica, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?

I am overly happy to being a business owner. yes I have thought about working a job. Well let me explain why. It was the during the pandemic when my Businesses had to shut down, because they were not essential businesses. I needed income from a different source because I couldn’t provide any beauty or health services for my clients.

During this thought I was sitting on the bed and I was like lord what’s a girl to do with the savings that probably would have gotten me and my family through for only 3 to 4 months.

I begin to ask God how you take me from the workplace to being a business owner and allow me to worry like this.

God spoke and said you will have more than you ever had and his word wasn’t void. So after that thought I never thought about a job again. I just trust God through it all now.

Monierica, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Monierica Thomas (Prima Donna) I’m 36 years old, married to my wonderful husband of 14 years. We have 5 young kings together.

I am a multi business owner and if you don’t mind reading I’ll break each of them down for you.

Prima Donna Beauty Bar and Spa LLC
Is a day spa where we provide beauty and body services for men and women. We offer lash extensions services, brow, hyaluronic pen services, body sculpting, post op care.
In April I went to become a Colombia Post Op Practitioner and Body Sculpting Specialist. I also created my very own shape wear and faja line.The trip was well worth my money spent, because it truly raised the prices and allowed people to be more comfortable with paying those prices.

In September of 2021 I was the first in my city to have a billboard representing my company in Time Square in New York city. The feeling was undescribable as me and my family stood there to watch myself go a cross the screen that I shared with NBA YoungBoy.

In November I open my lab. Which we offer DNA testing, some sexual transmitted diseases test and COVID test. We did start with it being a drug testing center. But helping families and my community grew more on me as I helped mother, father’s, children and my community in many ways.

In February I open my allied health school.
The Brilliance Academy. Which we help turn dreams into reality for those who are interested in the health care field. The programs we have are medical assistant, phlebotomist, and EKG. We graduated our first set of students on June 17,2022.

I’m set apart from most because I show up for all my businesses, i brought job opportunities for many in my community, I love learning and adding to my businesses to make me different from others.

I have been features in 9 magazines and the cover girl of 2. 6 times awards winner as a lash tech, boss of the year, and entrepreneur of the year. I am the author of The entrepreneur jump with instructions which is available on Amazon. I do what I do because I don’t want to disappoint God or my family. That’s why my approach is so gentle and humble in business. Which people take it as being boastful and arrogance. I think that’s it.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

In 2015 I was working at a personal care home sister as a CNA. During the time working I knew I was ready to step out on faith to open my beauty bar up soon.

My husband always in support of anything I do, so he allowed me to save up all my checks for the following 6 months so I could make the faith move.

I didn’t know exactly how I wanted to go as if I wanted my own space or a suite to get started. Well I decided on a suite which was more in my budget because I didn’t have the extra over head.

But that 6 month of income saved allowed me to get everything I needed a the suite that got me started in business as a small business owner.

How did you build your audience on social media?

I was able to build my audience very quickly on social media because in my beginning stages I was the one person in my area offering mink extension and I always had some kind of weekly special to get the people in the door to lay on my lash bed.

Now I offer a freebie for those who follow me and join my email list. I also post daily and educate my audience with updated information and give them daily tips. I go live and become one with my audience.

The advice I have is show up daily in some shape form or fashion for you and your business no matter what because there people who are watching rather if they say, click the like button or not there’s a world of people out there.
