We recently connected with Monie Wilder and have shared our conversation below.
Monie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I’m certifiably risk-adverse yet have taken several big risks in my life. My divorce was my first big risk and built so much confidence for me. It was the first time I decided to make a choice to change not knowing what/how it would turn out but just knowing that the devil I knew wasn’t better than the devil I didn’t. After that I changed careers away from being on a very safe/lucrative path in government to working for a lot less in the fitness industry. I quickly realized I had what I took to be self employed and opened my first business, a CrossFit gym and through crazy twists and turns got my real estate license and decided to close my gym, a go full time as a real estate agent. Now I have a team, I coach agents, and am consistently making progress towards a life I couldn’t have imagined. All thanks to taking risks
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
At my core, I’m a coach. I happened to fall into the real estate space and fell in love with the power that great coaching (for clients and agents) had on people’s lives through selling and buying properties. Selling homes is elementary in many respects, the ability to influence the outcomes to meet client’s goals is the skill and art involved – that’s what I do better than most. Over the last 6 years I’ve shifted from being the practitioner to helping my agents hone their unique strengths and increase their value to their clients. It’s incredibly rewarding to see a client and agent become confident and bold in the pursuit of their goals due to the guidance I’ve provided.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Our culture crows about “grinding” and that the only way to become successful is to work, chase, and push. I am, by nature, a grinder however I’ve learned that when you are constantly in that mode your quality of life and relationships suffer – as do your results. Now I focus on being focused on flowing. Being a person who effortlessly attracts opportunities because of who I am and the results I create- this has been life changing for me and my business.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My results. Clients care more about what you deliver than anything else. You can be the most kind and nice person on the planet but they will not refer people to you if you don’t meet their goals.
