We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Monica Tuck. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Monica below.
Monica, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with talking about how you serve the underserved, because in our view this is one of the most important things the small business community does for society – by serving those who the giant corporations ignore, small business helps create a more inclusive and just world for all of us.
Typically when you think of the term “under served” you think of under served people and communities in which they reside. Owning a brand and content creation studio, our mission is help business owners and thought leaders accelerate their “why” through brand and content strategy. You may ask how “under served” describes this analogy? This answer is very clear with our ideal clients we serve as we focus on independent business owners who are ready to scale and non profits who have limited resources. These two populations are typically strapped with limited income and employees and staff to manage and run their marketing or the ongoing content services they may need to market their product, brand, program, or service. We aim to change the way people view the “agency” world by providing top notch and affordable creative marketing services to these two clearly defined populations. We are also boutique and a small business of our own creating a brand culture to accelerate small business owners and non-profits. Our goal is to stay small and grow as we grow the population we serve!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi! I am Monica Tuck co-founder of, U•Studio. I personally specialize in brand and content strategy for our clients. I began an independent consulting business 11 years ago Unbridled Studio in which I branded myself to help other female leaders brand themselves as thought leaders and independent brands. Many of us shared the same stories as growing into mothers and navigating life with work, kids, marriage, etc. It was truly a beautiful collaboration. As time grew on I began growing and the client mix began to grow. Three years ago I partnered with Pamela Brinkmoeller, a veteran Brand Strategist, where she now also oversees all of our branding services as she applies brand strategy to brand naming, logo design, and other design services from PDFs, direct mailers, to billboard campaigns. We rebranded from Unbridled Studio to U•Studio as I didn’t want the business to be about my story anymore. It was about US working collaboratively as independent creatives with other creative business owners. We have also recently acquired a fabulous Digital and Content Strategist who oversees our copy writing, web design, and content management services. We are a lean mean creative team of three and now have the capacity to manage a full suite of creative services, always keeping brand and content strategy in the forefront.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Yes! This year actually. We took another BIG pivot. We starting realizing who our ideal clients were and who what were ideal to the business. We also started realizing that people would come asking for a logo, website design, and marketing materials but had zero strategy to what they were actually selling. We now begin with a complete brand and content strategy package FIRST. Then build the creative and execution services around that. This allows more strategic alignment with the brand goals. We have had seen so much success with our services and the clients gaining ROI on the services we provide when they are set up strategically to sell with the tools we have provided.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn is feeling like an imposter. I have been in this business for 11 years and consider myself a thought leader and expert at what I do. Of course there is always growing to do but I no longer feel afraid to market myself or the business. Before this year, we solely gained clients off of referrals and in person connections and relationships. We are a marketing company and were doing zero marketing of our own, until just a couple of months ago! We to are a small business and juggle ALL the things and have had to really start working on the business and not so much in the business. Delegating tasks accordingly to market ourselves and not feeling narcissistic or imposters about doing it all has been our goal this year. I am very proud of our business and where we have came from.
