Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Monica Tapia-Mularski. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Monica thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
The name “Season 2” is a reflection of two very important aspects of our business. The first one being that it is a second season or a second chance for each and every item we sell. Being a resale e-tailer, we are in a sense “rehoming” the items and therefore giving them a second chance at being worn, used and loved.
The second is that launching Season 2 was a new season of life for myself and my sister, Erika (Co-Founder). We agreed to venture into a new season of our relationship with one another, moving from sisters and best friends to business partners.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Season 2 Consign, founded by Erika Tapia Schrieber and Monica Tapia-Mularski, brings over 15 years of expertise in the luxury handbag resale industry. Recognizing a significant gap in the market, the sisters established a contemporary and streamlined consignment model that offers an elevated aesthetic and unparalleled customer service.
MISSION
Our mission is to establish a secure digital platform that fosters trust and integrity for both consignors and customers. We prioritize building strong relationships through our product cycle, ensuring the highest quality of service with a concierge-style approach.
As our company has expanded, we have grown into a franchise business model, partnering with trusted individuals to open showroom/offices nationwide. These partners uphold the same high standards and commitment to service that Season 2 Consign has always delivered locally.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Yes, absolutely! These are some of my favorite books that have really helped mold my mindset and business acumen – 1. When Women Lead by Julia Boorstin
2. Start with Why by Simon Sink
3. Relentless by Tim Grover
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
From the very beginning we set clear company culture standards. We knew that the luxury resale industry was one that would require the ability to build trust with our clients from the start. With that, we made sure to try to do the right thing, every time. Now, we’re not perfect by any means and I’m sure there are clients who have been unhappy with us but for the most part, we always do the right thing in any given situation – even if it’s hard. We’ve never wavered in our mission and we have stuck to our policies and procedures. Consistency and dedication to what you say you do is key. If clients feel you are inconsistent and cannot be relied on, they will not trust you and therefore your reputation will be questionable.
There will be times when you have to pivot and things need to change, but ensuring clear communication to your clients is also incredibly valuable in those instances.
