We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Monica & Silvia Sanchez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Monica & Silvia , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
“I was born and raised in Lima, Peru. After what seemed like an idyllic childhood, I was ready to advance my studies. I entered in first place to the Toulouse-Lautrec institute to study graphic design -even when my father wanted me to be an architect. I succeeded and won national and international awards. This was the career I dreamed of. But when my mother died in 2006, I decided to focus on my personal life. I met my American husband in 2007, left my entire family, friends, culture and started my new life in the United States in 2009. It was hard to start from zero in a new country, even if I was able to speak English. I did freelance projects before landing my first job in the US: bilingual sales associate at Victoria’s Secret. I never thought I would be working at a mall. Resilience is part of my DNA, and I had to overcome the challenge of many professional immigrants who are well-prepared but don’t have connections or prior jobs in the US. In 2013, I joined Chase as a bilingual graphic designer. Currently, I hold my dream role working at Chase Auto as Aston Martin Financial Services Strategy marketing manager! I took the risk of leaving it all and I found my passion and the life of my dreams!”- Monica Sanchez.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Any fun sales or marketing stories?
We love our clients’ successful stories and how we helped them to accomplish their dreams. Here is one: Glen is a smart, hardworking, and energetic 63 yo engineer/manager who was stuck in a bad job and abusive management working 50-60 hours including weekends, not receiving the right compensation for his experience while dealing with ageism at his workplace. He needed the right coaches to help him to find the confidence to apply for a new job, with a great salary, along with work-life balance. The Career Sisterhood helped him with resume optimization, interview preparation including the counteroffer process and resignation letter to say “bye bye bye” to his old job. We even helped him update his look for his in-person interviews. First impressions matter!
Glen was able to get 2 great offers. Now, he is enjoying a 6 figures salary, a brand-new office, work-life balance among other benefits. Glen sent us a 360-degree video of his brand new office. We are still working with him to help to shape his career path.
You can be the star of our next successful story!
