We were lucky to catch up with Monica Milewski recently and have shared our conversation below.
Monica , appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
The most life-changing risk I have taken is moving across the country from Chicago, IL to Phoenix, AZ. Back in 2018, I was facing chronic illness, a life that was not fulfilling, and not being able to find a community I connected with. In the search for something more, I kept having moments where my intuition whispered, “go west”… “go towards the sunshine and warmth.” I had grown up a more cautious person, and dealt with anxiety, so I was someone who did not take any risks whatsoever.
The catalyst of my health issues did push me toward making the final decision to sell off most of what I owned and move to Arizona. Not only was warmer weather a positive element for my health, but I also heard a lot about the spiritual community in Arizona and hoped to find people who were like me, searching for a higher purpose and calling.
This all happened when I was 29, during what astrologically we call the time of life that is influenced by one’s “Saturn Return”. It is a time of shifting and realigning one’s life through difficulties. The first couple of years in Arizona weren’t as easy as I’d hoped, but I still managed to begin anew, meeting new people and putting myself out there more than I ever had. Every day I was grateful my health was improving, my spiritual outlook was deepening, and I could see the rewards of taking the risk. My life truly wouldn’t be what it is today unless I had taken a chance on listening to my intuition.
Monica , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
During my time in Arizona, I met an astrologer who read my birth chart and helped me further understand my energies and higher alignment. Being fascinated by Psychology and having previously gone to school to receive my Masters of Social Work, I immediately began my studies to learn everything I could about this system of self-awareness and cycles of life, and became an astrologer myself.
5 years later, I have worked with hundreds of people, helping them decipher their unique path and energy signature in their birth charts. It is a wonderful feeling to be able to be of service and offer a more holistic view of astrology that adds in a psychological perspective. Since astrology is an energetic language, the most impactful sessions are working therapeutically with clients long-term, to uncover how the astrology of today is creating an influence in the way someone experiences life.
Most commonly I am asked about what does the astrology in one’s birth chart have to say about their purpose/gifts? About their love life? In a natal chart reading, I am able to share the type of energy dynamic one would ideally want to express in those areas of life, and also what to be weary of. I’ve had clients that were able to move through more difficult situations quicker because they understood the lessons of their energetic journey through an astrological lens.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
If anyone is curious about how to become an astrologer as well, receiving astrology education is definitely important, however, I would recommend also looking into some psychology and ethics course work related to how to work with clients. When I decided to become an astrologer, I already had 4 years of psychology schooling, as well as 3 years of graduate school, that included in-depth training on how to be a counselor while adhering to ethical principles to ensure that client interactions were conducted ethically.
Learning the rules of astrology is important for providing the most accurate chart readings, however, it is just as crucial to know how to conduct oneself in those interpretations. Things to be aware of is being unbiased, not guiding the client per your belief systems, not subconsciously manipulating the client, etc. People who sign up for an astrology session are typically placing a lot of trust in what an astrologer shares, so it is not something to take lightly.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Even though marketing strategies are very helpful for growing clientele, I would have to share that in my years of working with clients, the one thing that has impacted my business the most is my own energetic state of being. I began tracking my energetic cycles and started to notice a pattern of less business coming in when I wasn’t doing as well personally. After investing in mentorship, and personal support, I noticed as if without effort, my referrals and business began to grow again.
I can’t stress enough how working on inner self-alignment and investing in emotional, mental and physical health optimization has profound effects on how much energy you are able to offer to those you serve. Take care of yourself first, so that you can take care of others, and everything will click into place.
