Monica, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.

It might sounds a bit cliche but the defining moment came to me via a Facebook ad. I had been an NP for more than 10 years and was relocating to Texas and trying to figure out what kind of practice I wanted to work in. I had done several specialties but have always had a special place in my heart for primary care. A facebook ad titled, “Family Practice Physician takes home $400K/year and is home in time for dinner”. I thought, “well that’s a lie” and clicked on the add. This was my first introduction to the Direct Primary Care Model and I opened my own practice about 8 months later.

Monica, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I am a Family Nurse Practitioner with a passion for helping people. I quickly realized once I was in actually in patient care that my job was to take care of insurance companies with stacks of paperwork, not actually taking care of the patients. I simply needed a better way to take care of patients and so I opened my own Direct Primary Care (DPC) clinic. This membership based healthcare model allows me to take care of my patients without all the rules and regulations put into place by insurance companies. We offer same day appointments, unlimited access to the office and your provider via text or phone, personalized care, transparent pricing and much much more. Our members love us because we know their names, their struggles, and work with them to ensure they live their best lives.
Quite simply I get to take care of every patient as if they were my own family member and it puts a smile on my face everyday!

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

I moved to a new state and opened my practice just 3 weeks later, only knowing our family that lived in the area. This required me to do some serious marketing and networking to get my name and brand into the area. I spent hours at networking meetings and making videos for social media to get my name and face out into the world. I attended networking meetings early in the morning and later in the afternoon, but this allowed me to tell my story and get others to recognize my face and brand

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?

I have been reading a lot of books, but recently found an app called Headway. It takes the cliff notes version of hundreds of non-fiction books and put them into audio version. It allows me to listen to the top points of many incredibly educational and resourceful books without spending hours reading each one. It has been a game changer for me and my growth as a business owner and manager.
