Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Monica Kelly. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Monica, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
At 15 years old I started struggling with anorexia which turned into years of a battle. For about 17 years, I struggled with this eating disorder that took over my life. When I finally got help and did inner healing, I discovered that a lot of my eating disorder was related to how I felt about myself and while discovering this I got into image consulting at FIT. After eventually becoming certified as an image consultant and a health coach (with IIN), I can now help woman who experienced the same inner struggles I did.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into doing what I do because I turned to image consulting as a way to show up in the world as my true and authentic self. I help my clients by simplifying their lives – through a color and full body assessment, they discover what colors work best for them as well as which ones to avoid and how to dress their body type. Once they know all of these things and more, they can take the guessing out of getting dressed and shopping. They will know what works best for them for the rest of their lives and I am always here to support when a big life event comes in to play that may have an effect (such as having a baby, getting a new job, dating again, etc).
What sets me apart from other image consultants, is that I not only focus in on the outside appearance but the inside too as I am a wellness coach. I strongly believe that what we feel on the inside always shows up somehow on the outside and I want every woman to feel good from the inside out. When that happens, they can show up in the world as their best self.
I am most proud of starting a business that embodies women empowerment. I strongly believe that I am here to help, however I can. Starting and building my business has been challenging, yet very rewarding as I am doing my souls work.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When COVID hit, I was only a year in a half into my business. It was obviously a hard time for all businesses, but it made me feel paralyzed in a way to do anything for my business. After all, my mental health was dwindling since I wasn’t even seeing family or friends at the time. Once things were getting better, I started showing back up because this is my soul’s work. I even did some virtual sessions which was lovely to reconnect. The pandemic was a challenge, but I will continue to help women.
Have you ever had to pivot?
A huge pivot for me that comes to mind is getting help for my eating disorder. After over 15 years of starving myself, throwing up, and bingeing, I finally was ready to get help. I needed a big change for my life. I was so sick and tired of being sick and unwell. I finally worked with a health coach who helped me find my triggers, together we poked holes at my childhood issues, and discovered ways to quiet my food noise. It was WORK, but I finally feel healed.
