We recently connected with Monica Fogerson and have shared our conversation below.
Monica, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Simply Healthy Fit was created to help, inspire, and encourage people to live their healthiest, best lives through being their most authentic selves and that looks different for everyone. No matter where you are at in your journey, everyone deserves to be able to live life in their most true, authentic way. That journey looks different for everyone. There are no set rules on how you get there. You will find yourself at the lowest of lows and the highest of highs, but each moment is a moment worth living and learning from. Each moment plays an important role in where you are going and how you get there. Don’t ever take one moment for granted. Don’t ever let anybody tell you what you should or shouldn’t be doing. Don’t ever give up fighting the good fight. Don’t ever feel like you aren’t worthy enough for what this world has to offer. Each one of us was created differently and serve a different purpose. Find that purpose. Find your voice. Find your reason. You are worthy of all you set your mind to. You can do hard things. You can be great things. Most importantly believe in yourself. Even on the hard days never stop believing in who you are and where you are going. Simply Healthy Fit isn’t here to give you a 3 easy step program and BOOM all of your wildest dreams will come true. Simply Healthy Fit is here to share real life, raw moments in hopes that it will keep you going in all that you are after in this life. Simply Healthy Fit is here to share what worked and didn’t work on this crazy journey of mine. Simply Healthy Fit is your biggest cheerleader in this crazy thing we call life. We are all in this together and we need to remember we are not in this alone. Learn from yourself, learn from others, and learn to keep going even when you feel like giving up. Your road to success and happiness is your journey, your truth, and your life to live and tell but isn’t it great to know you are not alone? Simply Healthy Fit will be here cheering you on and sharing truth that will keep you going!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn being a people please. I have always been so caught up in what others thought of me, how to fit in, and how to form into what others wanted me to be. I never had my own voice, my own thoughts, my own opinions. I went along with what I thought was acceptable. I lost who I was through that toxic cycle of always wanting to be the “liked” person. I feel like we all get caught up in moments like this, but I let it take over me. I lost friends, I lost jobs, I lost my purpose. Do I regret this phase in my life? Absolutely not and let me tell you why.
This phase in my life taught me so much. It taught me to be stronger in who I was created to be. It taught me to stand up for what I believe in even if it may ruffle some feathers. It showed me who my true friends are. It brought me to a place in my life where I am not afraid to use my voice and lose people in the process. I am finally living my most authentic life and I could not be happier with where it has brought me. Afterall, I am writing a blog that shares my darkest moments and that can be hard to share. We want people to see our “happy” moments, our “fairytale” moments. It’s hard sharing those rock bottom moments but how can we grow if we aren’t willing to share and reflect.
Share, reflect, and grow in each and every moment. You don’t have to stay where you are because you are scared of the next chapter in life. Light fires and let them burn because you are headed in the best direction life can take you when you decided to stop pleasing those around you and starting learning to live life for yourself. The right people will be there for you.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I found myself changing direction in life when I found myself at rock bottom. I am talking moving out of an apartment at 2 in the morning to go and live back with my parents. I was getting out of an abusive relationship that I thought was meant to last forever. I was depressed, full of anxiety, and alone (let’s be honest, I had been feeling these things for a while but ignoring them). At 27 I never pictured that for my life. Now at 32, I see the hard lessons learned and I am grateful for each lesson learned. I took those hard moments, and I turned it into something great. I have my own business, Simply Healthy Fit. I am a prekindergarten teacher in a district I grew up in and love. I am wife, bonus mom, daughter, niece, teacher. I am doing great things that allow me to live out my best life because of those hard moments and lessons. I, also, learned you are never too old to start over not that 27 or 32 is old but hey, I thought I would have my life figured out right out of college and that was not the case. Life is what you make of it at ANY age. Life is what you make of it at any point and time when you have to shift and pivot. Let those moments be your yellow brick road to living out a life you are meant to live.
