We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Monica Aragon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Monica below.
Monica, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
In 2019, I lost my dad, and the grief was overwhelming. During that time, my plants became a source of comfort and healing for me. Caring for them, watching them grow—it gave me a sense of peace and connection when I needed it most.
Fast forward to 2020, when the world turned upside down. I was working on the front lines at a grocery store, witnessing firsthand the fear, sadness, and loneliness that came with the pandemic. People were panic-buying, emotions were high, and I felt this deep urge to bring some light into the darkness.
Plants had always brought me joy, so I thought—maybe they could bring joy to others too. One day, I bought a bunch of tiny succulents, gathered two of my closest friends, and together we created little handmade cards filled with encouraging words and cute drawings. We paired each plant with a card and started leaving them in parks for people to find and take home.
The feeling was incredible. Seeing the impact of such a small act of kindness awakened something in me—a creative spark I didn’t even know existed. I realized that this wasn’t just about the plants; it was about spreading happiness, connection, and love. That’s when I knew—we needed this as a community.
From that moment on, my mission became clear: to give away as many plants as possible! What started as a simple act of kindness has since grown into something truly special. These gatherings—where people pick a plant, decorate a pot, and experience the magic of creativity—help fund our mission to keep spreading joy, one plant at a time.
Plantiness is the happiness plants give you. It’s the feeling of watching something grow, of giving and receiving kindness, of creating something beautiful with your own hands. And through these Plantiness Parties, we’re able to continue sharing that happiness with the world

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Monica, the heart behind Plantiness, and I’m from Fort Collins, Colorado. Plantiness was born from my love of plants and my passion for spreading happiness, creativity, and kindness. What started as a small act of giving away plants has grown into a movement that brings people together through art, nature, and community.
At a Plantiness Party, attendees get to choose from a wide variety of houseplants, including beginner-friendly and pet-safe options, and decorate a terracotta pot using an incredible selection of arts and crafts—paint, stickers, ribbon, decoupage, and more. It’s a chance to get creative, play with plants, and unwind in a way that feels good for the soul. But what makes Plantiness truly special is that for every ticket purchased, we gift a plant back into the community, spreading love and greenery wherever we go.
We also offer team building ! These events foster connection, creativity, and stress relief, helping teams feel more engaged and inspired. Working with plants is proven to boost mood and productivity, making this a unique and meaningful way to strengthen workplace relationships while giving back.
Beyond our signature Plantiness Parties, we also host free Card-Making Parties where people can come together to create heartfelt cards. We then take these cards and pair them with gifted plants, passing them out in the community to brighten someone’s day. It’s a simple yet powerful way to connect with others and spread kindness.
And then there’s one of our most unique experiences—Plantiness Tattoo Parties with Black Fox Tattoos. At these events, you can paint a pot, pick a plant, and get a tattoo! It’s an unforgettable way to merge self-expression with nature, creativity, and community.
What sets Plantiness apart is the joyful and welcoming atmosphere we create. It’s not just about buying a plant—it’s about experiencing the happiness plants bring, discovering your creative side, and connecting with others in a meaningful way. Plantiness is all about giving, growing, and creating magic together. We are also completely mobile and can bring the jungle to you !
I’m incredibly proud of what Plantiness has become. To date, we’ve given away over 4,000 plants across 21 states and 10 countries, and I’m honored to continue this mission. I want people to know that Plantiness is more than an event or a business—it’s a movement of light, love, and creativity. Whether you’re decorating a pot, making a card, or getting a tattoo, every Plantiness experience is about spreading joy, one plant at a time

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think what really helped build my reputation is that Plantiness started as a mission, not a business. Before I ever sold a ticket or hosted an event, I had already given away hundreds of free plants, that I grew myself—simply because I wanted to spread joy. I built a community around giving back, fostering creativity, and creating meaningful connections, and that foundation of kindness is what made Plantiness so special from the start.
People associate me with plants. When they see a plant, they think of me and Plantiness. If they’ve received a free plant from me, it’s a daily reminder of that moment of kindness. If they’ve attended an event, they have a pot they decorated—something unique and personal that lasts forever.
Plantiness is all about community, creativity, and giving back—values that are more important than money. I think people resonate with that and want to be part of something that feels good, meaningful, and fun. Word of mouth has been huge, too. People love sharing their Plantiness experiences, and that organic growth has been incredible.
At the end of the day, I think my reputation comes from staying true to my mission—spreading light and love through plants—and building something that genuinely makes people happy.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
When it came to funding Plantiness, I didn’t hesitate—I jumped all in. I made the decision to quit my job and invest absolutely everything I had into getting it off the ground. For me, there was no question about it. I knew this was something I had to do, and I believed wholeheartedly that it would all come back around.
Starting Plantiness was a huge leaf of faith, but I’ve always felt that when you pour your heart and soul into something, it pays off in ways you can’t always predict. I’m incredibly proud that I took that leap on my own, trusting in my vision and the impact I knew it could have. It wasn’t just about the money—it was about believing in the mission and trusting that if I gave it my all, everything else would fall into place.
