Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Monica A Kastle. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Monica, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you manage your own social media?
Aw, social media. Right now I manage my own because I like having control over what is posted, whether it be about writing, a short description of one of my books, or a photograph of a desert landscape, I think it maintains an organic feel. It also reflects my brand and personality. However, as I’ve gotten busier, I understand the need to hire a company and am currently looking into doing so. Having new insight and fresh ideas is key to keeping social media exciting.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I grew up in Greenville, a small rural town surrounded by mountains in Northern California. Their beauty and wilds, ignited my passion for writing. When I began writing for publication I wrote short stories, mostly horror, and was fortunate to have them published in anthologies, E-Zines, magazines, and on blogs. I have always loved fantasy, the paranormal, and of course, horror, and those elements influenced my writing. Today I’m an indie writer of urban fantasy and dark fantasy, with seven published novels, and an eighth that will be released in October. The Cascade Saga, is a griping series mixing together the supernatural, magic, and romance. Cascade Wolves brings two unforgettable characters from the Cascade Saga, who clash in the Crimson Series. The Moonlight Territory is an exciting dark urban fantasy series that weaves intrigue, noir, and romance.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative writer is doing what I love and being my own boss. That though can be tough, however the challenge is rewarding. At book signings, festivals, or celebrating a new release, it’s seeing my novels in print, or in the hands of someone who will love my characters as much as I do. The other is having a great network of people who share my interests of writing or reading.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I started submitting my work to publishers, I received more rejections than I care to admit to. There were form rejections, then there were rejections with helpful feedback, and lessons learned. With every one of them I asked myself if this was really what I wanted to do? Then I would revise and submit. That work and discipline led me to write my first novel. When I decided to write full time, I quit my high profile job. While it was an exciting time for me, there were those who disagreed. I’ve learned there will always be those who disagree and there’s nothing I can do about them. I followed my dreams to have seven novels published within five years.
