We recently connected with Monica A Kastle and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Monica A , thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Hard work with an equal amount of a good attitude. Of course having an incredible support system, a network of people willing to help you is invaluable. However, if you’re not willing to learn and keep learning all the hard work, attitude, and networking will be for nothing. I love it when I learn something new, and then using the knowledge to achieve success is always rewarding.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I grew up in Greenville, a small rural town surrounded by mountains in Northern California. Their beauty, unpredictable terrain, and wilds combined with a love for fantasy and horror ignited my passion for writing as well as photography. I can’t tell you a story, you don’t want to sit through that, but I can write one for you. When I started I was writing horror and after years of having my short horror stories published, I decided it was time to write my favorite genre, urban fantasy. I chose to independently publish my first urban fantasy novel Bone Chimes which became the first in the Cascade Saga series. Now I have Cascade Wolves, a companion series to the Cascade Saga, and the Moonlight Territory, a dark fantasy series. I live in Southern California with my family and two German Shepherds.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In 2016 I made the decision it was time to quite my job and write full time. While I was beyond excited to start a new journey and do what I love and my passion, it wasn’t met with the same excitement I felt. I dealt with the ‘you should get a real job’ then ‘what do you do all day?’ backlash and doubt for a couple of years. When I published Bone Chimes not only was it a dream come true but it was an incredible victory.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Bloggers. The networking they’re capable of, and the excitement they can create about a book is incredible. Plus their followers are as enthusiastic about books as they are.
