We were lucky to catch up with Monea West recently and have shared our conversation below.
Monea, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
So I actually was thinking hard and going back and forth with ideas and my best friend actually came up with Nea’s because my name is Monea and and because nea is one of my many names I thought that Nea’s sweets and treats was a good name I am very much so into sweets which is also a treat but if I ever decided to add anything else that wasn’t a dessert/sweet to my menu then I wouldn’t have to change my name
Monea, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Monéa pronounced monay I am a 32 year old family taught baker I started my business in November of 2019 I’ve always like baking and creating I watched my great grandmother who has past on and my grandmother who is very much still active but of course is getting older I want to be able to carry on these desserts and continue to add more right now I have on the menu Homemade ice cream, Banana Pudding, taffy apple salad, cookies , pies , cheesecake , cupcakes and cakes i am still working on cakes but I do offers the very popular at the moment strawberry crunch cake I do offer just about everything in different sizes small enough to be personal or bigs enough for a family and even small bite sizes for sweet tables remember I am pretty much self taught but I do try my best to create whatever it is your looking for.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
I think the best source of new clients come from social media from me posting and people sharing and also at work because we have pot luck and I get a chance to try new thing and or just take a new item to each event so that that get a chance to kinda try something new from the menu then they will place an order
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I feel My most effective strategy has been sampling I make small samples size thing and take them to different events i also work side my brother who is an chef and I’ll make the desserts to go with his dinners You have to be ready to invest in your self I could not sell everything right away cuz the people want to know what it taste like so you have to be willing to give away some times.
