We recently connected with Monae Marleau and have shared our conversation below.
Monae, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
Yes, Im extremely happy as an artist/creative right now. I’ve finally made it to the point in my career where Im making a living off of my music, and can focus on it one hundred percent. I get to wake up and give It my all everyday , it’s something I’ve dreamt about since a child. I don’t have to wonder what it would be like to have a regular job, I’ve had plenty a right before I signed my deal – I had a huge corporate job. Im no stranger to both sides of the coin.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I began my journey with music as a child, at the age of 8 – Music is something I knew I wanted to do forever. I’ve dedicated a lot of my time and resources to my career since I could remember, and have always had a great support system behind me. Something im most proud of is making that dream of mine a reality, I now am a full time artist and moved states to pursue my career in music. I signed my first deal with Equity Distribution and haven’t looked back since.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me , the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the fact that when I make music, its for me , its therapy – But when its released, people always tell me ” Oh I really felt that song.” or ” You said everything I was thinking.” I love when my music resonates with my audience and they feel how the music I love , makes me feel.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
A book that im currently reading that has impacted the way I view and approach this industry and its perception of me , is “The courage to be disliked.” by Fumitake Koga & Ichiro Kishimi. It challenges conventional thinking and societal norms, advocating for personal empowerment, freedom, and the ability to choose your own journey, despite societal pressures. It emphasizes that happiness and fulfillment are within reach, regardless of your past experiences or current circumstances. Im big on self self-acceptance and accountability in everything I do in life.
