Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mona Arestil. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Mona thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea of starting a mentorship program was in me before I knew what it was. I have had various mentors in my life, from the time I came to the United States as a young child. Being young, I didn’t realize how valuable having a mentor was until I got into high school. I had one mentor in particular that genuinely cared about me and my well-being. She showed up for me in ways I didn’t expect her to. She checked in with me, opened my eyes to different cultural experiences and even would ask about my family. From then I knew I wanted to be in a career where I can show compassion and care towards others. Especially young people because someone was there for me. As a college student, I participated in a weekend Leadership Institute program as a delegate for my organization. I was there to have fun and meet new people but I had no idea that I would gain insight into what it takes to be a leader. By the end of that weekend, we had to develop our visions and write out a plan. I wanted to create an enrichment program that nourishes the whole child and not just tackle behavior issues. Since then, I have been in the field of Education with almost 20 years of experience. From running Educational programs to mentoring youth from all walks of life. All of those cumulating experiences and encounters with a vast range of individuals paved the way for my vision. I not only know what it takes to be a mentor, but I have first-hand experience on how valuable the right type of mentorship can be.

Mona, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am an Educator. I find joy in seeing my scholars develop into who they are meant to be in this world. I am known for meeting people( students) where they are and providing a little light to guide them along the way. I am proud of being someone who never gives up on herself. I am proud of being the Founder of Beaming Brite Mentoring Inc. Here at Beaming Brite, we believe in nurturing the whole child. We support our youth through activities that promote self love and self acceptance. We show them that education goes beyond the classroom. We help them harness their voice in this world. Finding your voice and knowing who you are is key.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I say timing is everything, it’s everything! The idea of starting a nonprofit has always been in the back of my mind, but I had no idea how to get started. So, I never started. The idea of not having the right people or funds delayed me getting started. One day I finally decided to just move forward with my idea. Then in a conversation that followed the name was birth. From there, everything and all the right people came along. I realized I just had to make the decision, because timing will not always be perfect. Despite my delayed start, I always believed that things are always working out, so they always do.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I feel that my ability to build rapport with others, including parents and youth, speaks to my credibility in my field. Also, my years of experience and expertise further shows my ability to support youth and guide them along their journeys.
