We recently connected with Molly Tieng and have shared our conversation below.
Molly, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
Impactful. Not many people know that I am the first American born on my mothers side from a family that escaped famine, struggle and near death in their home country. During the Cambodian genocide there were millions of families unable to escape – my family were one of the blessed ones to have made it out to America, the land of the free. If my grandparents had not decided on the will to fight to escape, I simply wouldnt be here. It was because of their decision to save their family that I am here with the opportunity to continue to water the seed that they didn’t know they planted. When I think about that, I realize how much power I hold. I realize that every decision I make will influence my son, his children and theirs. I am the first person born in a new country away from where it originally started. Whatever I lay Down during my time will serve as the foundation of my current and future American family generation. I hope to create a legacy that impacts anyone who gets to experience it, one that brings favor and anointing to all my future ancestors and causes them all to follow their own calling. A legacy that brings wisdom, discernment and strength to conquer all of life’s obstacles and to truly be used in this world.

Molly, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Over the years I finally have managed to merge my authentic self into my business and brand. It started as a family business, when my dad was a young teen living in Cambodia, he learned the skill of being a jeweler. He was taught how to repair and make custom jewelry from scratch. When he came to America, he went straight to the jewelry industry and began working for a jewelry store as a bench jeweler. He had dreams of owning his own business and being his own boss. The dream became a reality right around the time i was born. I think its safe to say that i was born into the jewelry industry! Me and my little sister would go to our parents jewelry store for as long as we both can remember. We learned the business early, and it became part of who we are. My parents always were genuine in their relationships and fair to their customers. Their amazing businesses practices and ethic is what grew their network of loyal customers. Watching how they interacted in business over the years left a huge imprint on me and the way i handle my own business and relationships.
I don’t just become your jeweler. I become a friend that feels like family. I become someone you can trust who will give sound advice in life and in jewelry buying, so you never feel like you’ve been lead wrong or cheated out of your money. We are all here to make a living, but it has never been about the money with me or my family. People come into your life for a reason, never by accident and i truly Believe that even with my jewelry clients. Some people resonate with you more than others, and the key to attracting the ones that do is by being your truest self, and not caring about putting on a facade for people that never cared to see your authenticity in the first place. I pride Myself in exemplifying that authenticity and allowing my clients to exemplify theirs. I get to know them first, their personality mixed with their personal preference will tell me how their jewelry should look. This is what sets me apart from any brand in the jewelry and what makes Luxury Designs by Molly a 1 of 1 brand. I am not here to try to make you pick something from a showcase and spend all your money. I am here to tailor the experience to you and make you feel like the individual you are. I am passionate about making your jewelry say something about you. I have limitless sources to create the look you need, including custom designs. I go above and beyond for my loved ones as well as my clients. Quality overall is my main mantra.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Good old fashioned word of mouth. These days a lot of people think that without social media, your business will fail. It does help, but there’s nothing better than word of mouth promotion, You build a relationship with a quality client, and they tell their network of quality people. Think about it, you may have a friend, family member or colleague that you trust their judgement and they tell you to buy something that they had a good experience with. It’s almost like a domino effect. Your name could end up in rooms you never imagined just from it being spoken to someone that knows someone that knows someone. It may take some time and require patience, but the best things take time to grow.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The hardest time in my life is what changed me forever. My sons father whom i shared a life with for almost 7 years tragically passed away in June 2019. It was as if my entire identity was ripped apart and burned to the ground. Only people who have gone through it know exactly what i mean. I took Almost 3 years off from my business. I was broken from my core and at some times didnt know how i would make it to the next hour. This happened a few months before the pandemic, so its crazy to think that a quarantine lockdown might have been the one of the things that saved me. It caused the world to stop in a sense, all i could do was stay home and deal with my emotions face to face and work on healing. I realized that i was called for a higher purpose and in order to fulfill it then i had to heal my foundation. A lot of people ignore grief and it leaves cracks in the foundation that they have to eventually come back and patch up. I experienced Some of my darkest days during this time. My faith also grew exponentially during this time. It is something that my son and i have to adjust to every day, but it is apart of our story. It has revealed new truths and new callings to my life. This experience is definitely going to serve as apart of my legacy, so stay tuned!
