We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Molly Schmidt. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Molly below.
Molly, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
A defining moment in my yoga career was at a park in Kansas City. I had just returned from a yoga training on Hawaii to receive my 200 hr yoga certification and invited friends to join me for a class. A handful showed up and joined me for the outdoor yoga flow. It was the feeling in the air, the smiles, and the gratitude afterwards that sparked a defining moment for me. That feeling led me to the certainty that I wanted to create outdoor yoga opportunities and expand that opportunity in the Kansas City area.
Molly, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Molly and I am a yoga instructor. I created Ground and Green which provides outdoor yoga class opportunities at parks and rooftops in the Kansas City area. The classes are primarily donation based as well as seasonal. Year round I offer personal, corporate, and event yoga sessions at an hourly rate.
Outdoor yoga combines the beauty of the internal and external world. Nature gives an opportunity to connect more deeply through the asanas (movement and poses). The feeling can only be described after joining a class.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I think that patience, care, and trust is necessary to develop relationships with students and each other. A piece that can be overlooked, but is equally as important to these characteristics is the atmosphere. The senses have to be in alignment with the goal of the practice.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Word of mouth! Friend to friend.
