We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Molly Nutt a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Molly thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
My last name is Nutt, which came with its own set of unique experiences growing up – there were some creative kiddos on the playground! Albeit, my last name helped me develop a sense of humor from a young age. As I got older, I became grateful for my last name. It was a great conversation starter, left an impression, and is a tough one to forget.
At home, when I was young, my mom would subtly decorate the Christmas tree or centerpieces with acorns, which became our self-proclaimed family crest of sorts.
As I was contemplating a name for my business, I wanted something meaningful. While the acorn is an amazing symbol of how a small seed can turn into a bountiful tree (a great parallel for the power of marketing and business growth), it also represents family to me.
Without any male cousins or siblings to carry on the legacy, the Nutt last name is unfortunately coming to an end with my generation. Although one day I’ll be married and no longer bear the Nutt last name, I’ll always have the legacy of my business to remind me of my roots.
This dual meaning and symbolism made for the perfect name for my agency.
Molly, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Molly Nutt, and I’m the founder of Acorn Digital Strategy, a copywriting and email marketing agency for wellness and lifestyle brands. We provide website, sales page, and email funnel copywriting for service-driven business owners, as well as comprehensive email marketing support for e-commerce businesses.
After just a few years of climbing the corporate ladder, I realized I needed to either keep my head down and hold on tight or get ready to throw the ladder out the window. Rather than following the “safe” path in the corporate communications world, I decided to branch out on my own at just 23 years old.
I started my business as a one-woman show and feel honored to now have a full team of incredible women supporting our amazing clients nationwide.
In a world full of copy-and-paste narratives (and watered-down ChatGPT fluff), we set your brand apart from the masses with expert copy that’s equal parts strategy and creativity. We believe compelling copy backed by tailored strategy is the tried-and-true path to cut through the noise, grow your business, and make you more money.
I also own a second business, The CEO Society, which is an in-person networking community for female founders in the greater Seattle area. We host monthly educational workshops, coworking sessions, and evening events to foster community and connection among female entrepreneurs.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Across all marketing channels (emails, social media, blogs, free downloads, ads, etc.) I focus on providing valuable content for free. The more educational or informative content you can share with your audience, the more you position yourself as the go-to expert with the answers to their questions. As you share value for free, you’ll build trust with your audience and authority in your niche.
Don’t spend too much time recreating the wheel. Write a blog, turn it into a newsletter, and then turn it into multiple social media posts! Content repurposing is a great way to save time AND establish yourself as the expert on the topic. The more you give away for free, the faster you’ll position yourself as the go-to solution for your target audience’s problems.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
My business has grown the way it has due to referrals. I feel so blessed to work with incredible women nationwide who have been kind enough to share my name with their networks. Transparency, honesty, and respect are key company values which I know clients appreciate.
