We were lucky to catch up with Molly Kujawski recently and have shared our conversation below.
Molly, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
For me, being successful requires giving a consistent, high-quality product or experience. I strive to make everything I offer feel like it’s time and money well spent (whether it’s my wellness retreats, personal training, group exercise, my 1-on-1 consultations, et..) I would never want someone to leave from their time with me and think “well, that was a waste.” I want to always offer the best in health & fitness and try to stay on top of the most cutting edge information for all of my clients.
I also think I have been successful because I have created a community of people who enjoy each other’s company. In a group setting, we laugh and joke around but also encourage and motivate each other. We check in and hold each other accountable which helps keep people coming back for more. :)
I try my best try to offer a huge variety of exercise formats and make them fun so people want to show up and stay for the long haul. I have a silly personality and use that to help make people feel welcome and not feel pressured to be perfect.
Being authentic, consistent, and the willingness to fail and keep trying all equal success to me!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I got into the health and fitness industry after seeing how much better I personally felt when I started taking care of my body. I used to have low self-esteem and struggled with depression when I was younger because I didn’t eat well, get enough fresh air & sunshine, move my body enough…the list goes on. I went to college to study nutrition and then moved into physical education because I have always loved athletics.
I can relate to clients who struggle with motivation and feelings of being depressed. I think I offer a very personal touch to all of the people who attend my group exercise or personal training sessions. I get to know my clients and try to help them not just with exercise but in many other areas of their lives-nutrition, mental health, community, and holistic wellness.
I am most proud of the environment that I have created at ExcelFit With Molly. I couldn’t love the people that attend my classes and personal sessions more and I say that with all honesty. We do more than just exercise together and have even been there for each other through some serious life challenges (divorce, death, job loss, Covid, etc…) I have created a very welcoming, fun-loving environment that fills you up. Nobody is there to show off or make anyone feel “less than” For that, I couldn’t be more appreciative. I plan social events, trips, fundraisers for local charities, and as many outdoor workouts as I can fit in each year.
At ExcelFit With Molly, I offer an ongoing, online workout program, virtual exercise challenges, in-person group fitness classes, personal training sessions, partner & small group workouts, health & wellness retreats, 1-on-1 health assessments, and want to get back into corporate wellness.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
As a business owner, I want to be able to do it all. Every part of my business I do myself-my website, my social media, my books, programming, coaching, etc…on top of having a family. I have had to teach myself to not only say “no” to new potential clients (when I don’t have any more open training times or feel completely burnt out) but also to ask for help! I just recently added a new yoga instructor and Pilates/Barre style instructor to cover for me when I need a break and am going to be asking for more help moving forward.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
I don’t do much paid advertising so I rely on referrals as the best way to get new clients. I believe that if you have raving fans, they want to share your business. I have been so fortunate to have customers who want to help me spread the word-whether it’s by telling friends, putting my logo on shirts and car magnets, sharing my social media posts, or inviting them to attend a virtual or in-person workout.
