We recently connected with Molly Brubaker and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Molly, thanks for joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
My business is a community for new parents where they can exercise and find support. We foster a safe space to find not only physical support with returning to exercise, but mental and emotional support. We do not consider ourselves a “mommy and me” type workout for a couple of reasons:
1) we welcome all parents and caregivers (not just moms)
2) our focus is on support for the parent. In American society there is NO postpartum support offered to new parents except ONE post birth check up then you are left on your own to navigate one of the hardest times of your life. We focus on the parent with our classes by offering a workout that feels like one they did before having kids (high energy, fun music and the babies are there, but are no way the focus.
3) we provide a space for not only the parents to socialize, but the babies. While we workout the babies do their own thing. They roam our space, play, eat etc. There is a lot of evidence that babies learn by watching other kids. We welcome all babies and toddlers 4 years and under.

Molly, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I didn’t know what I needed specifically in my postpartum recovery 3 years ago , but I knew I needed to get out of the house with my new baby and I missed exercising. I wanted to have a set place to go.. a PURPOSE. Additionally, my husband was REALLY struggling with postpartum depression and I didn’t know how to cope. I didn’t know if that was normal. This is why I’ve always had our classes be open to all parents/caregivers
The community blossomed and I saw such a need for this safe and welcoming space for all parents. We started with one class a week, then gradually bumped it up to 4 classes per week. Now 3 years later we have 13-15 class/week in two studio locations with 17 instructors.
Problem Baby Booty® Solves:
PROBLEM
Once you become a new parent you cannot prioritize yourself; there’s no childcare available when you want to workout, or no gym where you can bring your baby, you’re not sure where to turn as a new parent for support and resources and how to get back to movement!
Joining our community and coming to our classes gives you a sense of purpose, a place to feel welcome, a way to workout without needing childcare – and ultimately a way to move your body after baby and feel like yourself again (in whatever way you need). We focus on ourselves as parents and just bring the babies along for the ride!
3.5 million babies born each year
And now current state of our country that number will increase with less access to family planning
SO where do these isolated moms go with no support?
– We offer classes 7 days a week for parents (not just 1x a week or special event type classes which you see with many mommy and me)
– We will arm you with the tools to get stronger not just physically, but emotionally and mentally throughout your pre/postpartum period
– We partner with LOTS of providers, services and brands for our members
We offer classes 7 days a week (workouts, yoga, strength, kickboxing, cardio, hip hop, etc) followed by a social circle community aspect of every class to find connection, resources, and support.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Everything we do on social media is spur of the moment, just like parenting. I’ve never been one to plan because social media has a reflection of whats happening right now. I try not to overthink it and just post. I recently made a reel of me just asking for help on camera. The summer is really tough for boutique fitness studios in terms of clients wanting to cancel their memberships. The reel got over 6,000 views and we were able to bring in 20 new members. Another thing Ive learned is to just TRY things. One of my clients asked if she could make some videos for us and I was hesitant, and I don’t pay her. She made us a very random reel that got over 1 MILLION VIEWS and got us a lot of new followers.

Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
I still almost miss payroll and rent EVERY MONTH. I am OPEN with my team with transparency about the state of the business. We do not have any outside funding so I’ve been bootstrapping the whole thing. There have been many months where a team member will ask when they will be paid because they have a car payment and I will venmo them from my own pocket just to be sure they can cover their bills. It’s definitely more expensive for the business to lose good team members and have to recruit, hire and train new ones!
