We were lucky to catch up with Molly Boatman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Molly, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I first dove into the idea of owning my own business when I lost my ‘corporate’ job due to covid. I figured there was no better time to try it than then. The isolation of covid is what helped me develop my first, and most successful product, my photo-greeting cards. I wanted to spread joy to others and capture the hidden beauty of everyday life… sharing joy and beauty is still the mission behind everything I do today and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
Molly, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Molly Boatman, I’m 26, a Wilmington native, and I own and operate Molly Boatman Dot Com – an art & design business. On the ‘design side’ of my business, I offer a wide variety of graphic design and marketing services such as – advertising campaigns, branding packages, content distribution plans, photography & digital editing, marketing strategies, platform management, print & digital design, public relations, website creation & management, digital illustration, and more… Basically no matter what you’re looking for, I’m the girl to call!
The better-known ‘art side’ of my business is mainly comprised of my photocards (mailable 5×7 blank notecards with a photograph cover) but also consists of a variety of fine art, a line of illustrated children’s posters, selection of larger photography prints, and stained glass sun catchers.
I love custom orders of any kind! If you have an idea but you’re not sure how to go about creating it, call me! I’d be honored to bring your vision to life.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
As a creative, one aspect that I know some struggle to understand is the constant presence of creativity in my thoughts! Unlike a switch that can be turned on or off, my creative mindset is active around the clock. This means that everyday tasks, such as updating a budget, returning emails, creating invoices, or even posting content can be challenging because my mind is continuously generating ideas and seeking inspiration. I have no fixed office hours for my creativity… I may be experience bursts of energy and find myself designing at unconventional times, like 2am, while other days my productivity may peak in the afternoon. This can be frustrating for those who are expecting a more structured routine and responses. Although I strive to maintain professionalism, It’s difficult to fit into the ‘traditional mold’ of how a business is supposed to operate. My energy and motivation stem from my inspiration levels, which (unfortunately) ebbs and flows with no regard to the time or length of my ‘to-do’ list.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Everyday I am, in some sort of way, creating something brand new to the world. Focusing on creating positivity and fostering joy in others makes me thrive! I can’t imagine doing anything else besides graphic design… taking someone’s napkin sketch and developing it into a full fledged logo that they use daily is thrilling.
