We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Molly Blaeser. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Molly below.
Molly, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I’ve always been writing, Well, scratch that: I’ve always been creating. When I was a child, I used to have very vivid dreams. After one particularly fascinating dream, I narrated it to my father the next day; he wrote it on sheets of paper for me, which I then illustrated. I read it to all the other children along our cul-de-sac and proclaimed I’d “written a book.”
Fast forward several years, and my cousin Sean is telling me all about this new book he just finished. I asked to borrow it — and though I’ve always been a devouring bookworm, something about this particular novel stuck with me… And I said, “I can write a book like this, too.” That source of inspiration? Christopher Paolini’s fantasy novel ‘Eragon.’
I started writing bits and pieces of my fantasy novel on paper then suddenly the characters were in my head, narrating just as I had done with my father. And while it’s taken me over a decade of rewrites, I’ll never forget that moment when it clicked that I could write professionally. I hope I’ve made preteen Molly proud.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My “brand” started as a Disney blog in high school, part of an assignment for a journalism class. I’d grown up with Disney, but in high school, my Disney obsession became a new form of escapism. I yearned to be at the parks, attending all the media events, breaking the latest story.. Unfortunately, living in Minnesota made that, well, slightly difficult.
But I enjoyed the blogging community I found — and because of my Disney blog I made an internet friend who encouraged me to apply for the Disney College Program. When I discovered I’d be graduating college early, I decided to postpone being an adult and escaped to Walt Disney World. I worked there for a year, which was perfect for my brand.
However, when I left Disney, I realized that I wanted to explore more topics, create more concepts. So I rebranded myself as Moments with Molly. and decided that my brand is now, well, me. Whatever moments I choose to share with the world. I grew up with a scrapbooking mom, so social media became a digital scrapbook, with vlogs being fuller memories instead of just photos.
I think the most beautiful part of all this is that I am continuously growing and learning. Social media is a changing landscape, constantly. Who knows where I’ll be in five, ten years.
But I can’t wait to find out.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
When I perform onstage in community theatre (maybe professional, one day!), I love watching the audience escape into the story we’re telling. It’s what drew me to theatre: shifting into someone else’s life for an hour or two. Since I mostly play wacky character parts, I love hearing the audience laugh. It’s full-circle really: I’m presenting the audience with entertainment, which the audience reacts to, then I feed off that energy. It’s truly special.
In college, I performed Mary Tilford in ‘The Children’s Hour,’ a very serious story with dark themes. Mary Tilford is somewhat the villain. Months later, I was selling refreshments at another show, and one audience member simply said, “I don’t want to buy candy from you because I still hate you.” Honestly, I took it as a compliment.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Publishing my novel is my main goal, creatively. After over a decade of rewrites, I’m finally submitting it to publishing houses. The entire process gives me anxiety, like I’m sending my child off to college. These characters got me through many dark times in my life, but it’s time I shared them with the world.
