Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Moji Stanislavsky . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Moji , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?

My father studied medicine in his youth in Germany , flew to Iran and met my mother who was also studying medicine there. When the revolution happened in 1979 my parents came to the US. My father couldn’t start all over again in the medical field so he started M&D Jewelers back in 1980. Since both he and my mom were medical doctors and name is Moji and my brothers name is David., voila you have M&D Jewelers as the name of the company !

Moji , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

M&D Jewelers is a family owned small business located in Beverly Hills Ca. We sell high quality fine jewelry made for the every day woman and we also make engagement rings. We provide highly competitive pricing and excellent customer service. As a woman owned business , Moji understands her clientele and provides customers with jewelry that lasts a lifetime.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

When my father passed away in 2014, I was heartbroken and knew very little about the jewelry world. The first day I walked into the jewelry plaza where my father had been working for decades I broke down sobbing , missing him so much. I was in a very male dominated field in downtown Los Angeles and it was a sink or swim situation.

I learned everything there was to learn about the industry all by myself. I had to learn diamonds, running a business , buying products, selling products and more.

Have you ever had to pivot?

March 2020 hit and Covid was here. Our lease in downtown la was up and I made the big move to Beverly Hills. It felt risky and scary because the jewelry plaza gets a lot of traffic ! But we made it and we moved the store and have now been in Beverly Hills ever since !
